Wondering if I should reduce profile, and skip high mount all together
OR
Increase profile, but use high mounts that are very close to your CT and provide a lot better convergence and shoot over obstacle ability
It's a classic defense vs offense. what would you do?

Make a shield arm and go that route.

Try both and see what plays better for you.

'it's just a conversation about making a meta Ebon Jaguar'

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Not in the case of the Archer, unfortunately... Its cockpit is literally near its {LT-MOB-25} pit.

It's a discussion about Ebon Jaguar ears.

Very true. Both have plusses and minuses.
If you have played IS w XL, you probably got the twist and turn down for high mounts (or wait until you get elited)
I run 2lplas and 6 mediums, but have to take time to cool or not always alpha. I can do enough damage and have extra weapons if I loose a torso to justify high mounts. This is just me.
Great mech once you get it down.

And I was going to suggest we make those missile boxes permanent. Because screw earless timbers.

Make them permanent, with separate hitboxes and health pools. And put all ST SRMs into them instead of the humps. Boom, we now have Timber Wolves I can be really proud of. Oh, and while you're at it, make all of the strapped on/box missile racks added onto mechs, including the Ebon Jaguar's ears, have separate HP/hitboxes as well.

I've tried numerous meta builds as well as the gauss on the ebon jaguar and I finally just gave up. I'm using an LBX 20 on the high mount, 3 tons of ammo, 4 ER medium lasers (2 high mount, 2 arms), and 1 medium pulse laser. The lasers and shotgun work well for what I want and while I have a larger profile, I couldn't give a crap 'cause I'm cheesy enough for running around in the ebon swag. It's a super good mech.

You have it all wrong. "It's alreadya good mech. It shouldn't be getting anything that would buff it in any way," is what I here all of the time, so it must be true.

So they get bonus damage reduction on weapon pods for having a super high mount? The only fair way is to make weapon pods health separate. Any other number combination but retaining the same torso idea is just bad. (For reference, see MW4, it's one of the few good things they did right)
Anyways, for the 40% of the people that stayed on topic, I thank you. I tried both and truthfully, as predicted, the Mickey Mouse ears provided bigger target to be shot at, but I am landing about 20-30% more shots just from my arm shots not hitting obstacles. If it's a duel type situation, definitely benefit to have smaller profile (NGXT of Lord taught me that), but for now... probably stick to my Mickey Mouse ears to farm those cbills.
Thanks all!

So much wrongs in this.
So in your idea, they get Extra hit points on top of the torso hitpoints?
what?!
In what I proposed, there is no extra hit points, you will lose your torso along with all the weapons in it and your arm when the enemy shoots your missile box that is popping out of cover.
In what you propose, when the enemy shoots your missile box, your torso takes no hits, therefore you can lose an empty worthless box and still keep your arm and torso along with avoiding speed and heat gen loss.
That is the definition of extra hit points,.... which is wrong!
The part they did right in MW4 was addition of extra hitbox for the missile boxes. That is all!

No, he's proposing that it has its own health pool, where it will get blown off if it takes enough damage itself. Completely separate from the STs. That way, if someone is shooting the crap out of your ears, your ST literally doesn't take any damage. But if someone is shooting your STs, the ears don't take any damage from that, but (probably) will be destroyed if the ST is destroyed. Get what I mean? It makes no sense for an LRM rack completely disjointed from your engine to rip off your arm and half your engine when the box gets shot to hell.
