Heh, maybe more along the lines of a SadCat taking 6 MGs instead of a Jesus Box

But those heatsinks...

I'm just sitting here hoping for good MG buffs, and January's mech to be the Piranha. Hell, that's one mech I'll be fine with PGI invented variants, since it's still a Diamond Shark mech. And 12 MGs. Just, 12 MGs. I want to be able to use MGs and not be labeled a joke build. So, PGI, please make sure your MG adjustments are buffs, and not nerfs. And if it is a buff, don't hotfix it back to being crap before I can play the game again, since I'm going on vacation for a week the day of or a couple days after the patch drops.

Oh, right, the joke OP made. lol.

6mg spider is a strategic weapon though. ..

Sure its scary but how many people on the other team will face it in a single match....

I think its nothing like god huggin with srm4 quirk pre light leg fall damage nerf

Boating machineguns
The hope to kill potatoes with the utter lack of skill?
You have almost unlimited ammo and no heat for almost no weight

Do we really want to give a Spider or Cicada with just MGs the ZimmerFLAK to deal some real damage?
I don't think so.

Better to modify the mechanic of machineguns and make them burst fire weapons. (a 1sec burst but 5sec cooldown) - DPS stays the same. So its a 4.8dmg burst of 1sec or dealing ~ 0.5dmg per bullet

This is a huge and it add some skill level to this gun.

Oh no, someone actually suggesting that MG boating would be OP because they run through their box of ammo slowly and generate no heat and are light weight while ignoring that they suck relatively.

-MG ammo box gives 160 damage, AC2 gives 150, AC5 gives 150, AC10 gives 200, and AC20 gives 140. This puts it right on the average of 160 damage per box of AC ammo.
-A machine gun with just half a box of ammo, enough to deal 80 damage, is 1 ton and has 0.8 dps *wow, 100 seconds to deal 80 damage*. An innersphere small laser is half a ton and deals 1 dps with infinite ammo and extremely low heat. That small laser also has more range than the machine gun.
-Its completely limited by its inability to hit and fade because of it requiring face time

What you suggested would actually make it into a heatless IS medium laser with half the range. This would actually really make them have the possibility of being overpowered. You'd give a light mechs extremely high damage close range alphas with the same heat as now. 6 MG+2ASRM6+SPL Shadow cat would deal 58.8 damage per shot and nearly never worry about overheat.

You know, I'd almost like to see that.

To boat MG you need maximum face time on target and that alone demands some skill.

Srm4 quirked huggie had the same face time problem but to much less of an extent due to the high damage of srm and the overheating which forced you to engage and disengage the target.

A huggin pilot who stripped off his machine guns lived much longer because of this.

Sounds like the 6 MG shadowcat. Always the shortest lived variant of shadow cats.

True, but it is one of the most fun ones.

Yep. As long as the MG buffs gets increased enough for how much dmg and crit you can get outta 1 ton of ammo, Im all ready to add more machine guns into my builds as backup weapons or dedicated crit builds.

I doubt this would ever happen but in MW2, there were no slot limits of any kind. In a firemoth, I mounted about 20 machine guns.

I shreadded assault mechs in seconds :)

I doubt there is a mech in this game with that many slots anyways but that's what they need to avoid. Otherwise MG's always have my blessing.

Also change the damn sound effect, it's pathetic.

16 max weapons, so it will never happen

I swear the Art and Sound is why they're kept pathetic
If they were more akin to the Gau-8 (a ~half-quarter ton MG), you wouldn't have people saying "But but but it's anti infantry!"

I bought a Viper C variant a while back and am simply waiting for skill tree changes (no point in buying 3 to level them) and... Stronger machine guns? Heck yeah. Getting face time to use them isn't a huge issue with that mech.

I really hope PGI doesn't buff MGs or LRMs. They're in a great place right now. Machine Guns would just be devastating up close if they got a mere 0.1 damage increase! Posted Image

Well, I do.

I'd even take the ridiculous CoF and small range and I don't need the crit mechanic either. But give me the weaon that it should be, a low weight low range AC2. That is what it is supposed to be.

Sure, that is a lot of DPS. And for sure there should be some steps in between before we get pendulum balancing again. But a MG should not be a laughable paint scratcher. And you can balance high DPS with wider CoF and less ammo. Still this would give light mechs with ballistics something to work with.
