Turn it off. Seriously, just scrap it, and don't bother replacing it. Solo queue can be twelve randos versus twelve other randos.

"Hang on a second!" I hear you object, "Isn't that a little extreme?"

I don't think so. Matchmaker was originally implemented to try to enforce weight class restrictions, ensuring that teams would have roughly equal numbers of lights, mediums, heavies, and assaults. Enforcing 3/3/3/3 was abandoned pretty quickly, and there seems to be no guarantee that if the matchmaker finds (for example) eight assault pilots, it will split them four and four across the two teams its supposed to be balancing.

The matchmaker also very quickly adopted the goal of attempting to create teams of roughly equal skill. Currently, that supposedly means that you're supposed to be matched with 23 other players within +/-2 tiers of your own PSR tier. Even without critiquing how PSR works (it doesn't), the matchmaker isn't enforcing tier restrictions either.

Yes, yes, these are release valves that get turned, when matchmaking is taking too long. I understand that.

The point is that when you hit the Quick Play button, all you do is wait for all of the valves to get turned and then get dumped into a match identical (or near-identical) to the match you'd have gotten, had the matchmaker not been there at all. Deactivating the matchmaker and dumping you into a game with 23 randos saves you the wait time.

Maybe I'm overstating the frequency with which the release valves are opened, but I'd be interested to play for a weekend or two with the matchmaker deactivated, just to see if there is a perceptible difference.

No, the matchmaker was originally implemented to try to make teams of players with similar Elo ratings. 3/3/3/3 came much later, after players complained about opposing teams with more assaults.

matchmaker seems to place a lot of emphasis on the mech your in, more than your skill. my source is that nearly every match im in, theres another mech, same varient or at the least same chassis as me.

in order for matchmaker to work better, you need it more focused on skill then mech, preferably they should match you up with others in your weight class, then by skill, as opposed to by chassis then skill. they just havent found that sweet spot in the middle of the two systems yet.

No please. I have no joy in having complete newbies either as my teammates or as my opponents.

The matchmaker already doesn't exist.

At least, not during the times of the day that I'm mostly playing.

As per several threads I've posted lately, showing teams with 8 people doing sub-100 damage, or failing to even understand what the Domination circle is for, "Tier 1" matches have only a few experienced players, and very few Tier 1.

It's sad. It's really turning me off MWO. "Stomp" or "being stomped" is neither challenging nor fun, match after match.

This is how MW matchmaking has always been in the past. I personally enjoyed playing past MW title games where I carried teams. Maybe if we removed stat tracking from the game, people would be more open to having newbs on their teams?

matchmaker is currently a joke with the upward bias of PSR, everyone will eventually be Tier 1...

Removing stat tracking will have no difference. I will still be pissed off if I see a teammate of mine shoot IS LRMs at point blank range, or attempt to brawl with armlock on. And removing the MM means I will see more of such idiocy.
