As far as I understand it we are about to see a new game mode called Escort.

In it, an Atlas will try to get to point A from point B. One team as the defender, the other team is trying to take it out. Sounds like an interesting challenge.

Seems like it would be easier to knock out the Atlas than it would be to defend it.

Even pugs would know what to focus.

Just hit it in the CT. It'l go down easy.
If they wanted to make it challenging they should have made it a Locust. Those buggers are hard to kill.

My thoughts are that escort missions have been the worst part of video games for the last 30 years or so. As such, I really wish it wasn't coming to this one.

If it doesn't have 5000HP, there are going to be issues


(and no, 5000 HP isn't unreasonable, the Atlas K had 1500 HP on one of the PTS')

El Presidente from Team Fortress Classic disagrees. I remember playing as both the escort soldiers and the opposing snipers... the game worked because the escort team had a firepower and armor advantage, and the assassin team could not just bumrush or they would all die quickly...

I think Escort needs uneven teams to succeed.

We're escorting an Atlas? Not a POI or a vehicle or... something? Why does a hundred ton mech NEED an escort? It's supposed to strike fear in the enemy!

i already can think of a strategy. heavys stick with assault in the opening part of the game, while lights locate the enemy team. once lights locate the attackers, they switch places with the heavies. heavies move off as a screening force, while lights escort the atlas and defend it from the enemies lights, who might bypass the screening force.

ever seen a direwolf get swarmed by a lance of coordinated lights when its been abandoned by its team? thats why. also, as a vip who cant fight, would you prefer to be escorted in a hummer, or be the backseat to an atlas with maxed out armour? i know which one i feel safer in.

I would prefer if one of the assault players were designated to be the VIP, perhaps the heaviest or slowest one. Then you could try to devise a plan on how to escort the VIP and take different routes or take a defensive position for a while, seems more interesting and would encourage team play and communication.

If the atlas takes the exact same route every time on each map...that's going to be horrible. People will quickly learn where to set up to focus it down, or just camp the

If it's simply so absurdly armored that it can just tank it's way through I don't think that will be very fun either.

I know , this escort game mode might convince people tonbring AMS more often in general...maybe we'll get fewer "LRMs OP!" threads as a result...

I have a feeling PGI is going to have to augment the escorting team with two additional AI bodyguards Atlase DCs. Both with ECM and sharpshooter pilots.

In one of MW4's mission maps (Resistance Clash, Col Renards's Last Stand) the mission was to kill an Atlas in a heavily defended spaceport. He was tucked behind good cover and the attacking team really had to peel back layers of turrets, strong points and defending players before they could get a good shot at him. If the game lasted almost the full allotted time the attackers were augmented by a company of heavy AI mechs. That last five minutes could be a rush for both defending and attacking teams.

I want to see the ai work. They've had six months to work on it. Hopefully it isn't first gen ai.

One thing I noticed is that the VIP doesn't seem to he armed in any way, nor does it appear to torso twist. It's not very encouraging for the defenders.

It's basically gen-rush tactics....on a slow moving Atlas...i predict boring as hell
