Quick Play Or Faction Play?

After trying it, it was really good !
I was lucky enough to drop with good lads on Polar (they happened to be quite a few 228 players) but generally everyone listened to orders/plans etc and we were smashing them. Only the timer went off at 20 minutes. Interesting that we won it by timer but still the reward with PT was almost a million for a fast connecting match.
Where as back to the last QP match I had, I waited a casual 5-10 minutes. We all got picked off except one person (I didnt even realise we were losing as I having some good fun). As usual in Dom the last player was a notorious T1 player who was hiding his Viper a million miles away from combat and blamed the team for being crap despite doing 198 damage while hiding.
So what game mode would I pick in future...
It's obvious, FP4.1 ! (I'll play it till it goes bad). It seems to be where the co-ordinated players are (I couldn't care less about their skill levels).

Perhaps your IS opponents had the exact opposite of your experience facing those 228 guys, and now think QP is better choice.
40 hours until I can join the Clams.

Is it bad manners to drop without fully mastered mechs? I finally got my deck made up but 2 of the mechs are still basic.
I'd like to give FP a go, but I'd prefer not do so if I'd be significantly disadvantaging the team.

You should ideally be bringing your best 'mechs, so you'd prefer to have mastered ones, but I can't imagine anyone would ever call you out for not having speed tweak or what have you.
Much more important is not bringing potato tier builds.
Edit: It matters a little bit more in scouting, since you're now a full quarter of the team, but it still isn't a huge deal. A basic SRM Griffin is infinitely better than a mastered LRM Griffin or mastered Commando.

Sounds painful but lets see where this goes, I just want a balanced close game so we'll see.
IS waves will no doubt be packed with Assaults vs Clan Heavies.
I feel playing with the weight means there's a bit of a fail going on, why not just allow 8 vs 12 and lift all clan restrictions. It hasn't been tried yet.

My mode choices, however, will be determined by the amount of play time I have.. if I've got more, FW it is, if I've got only time for a quick match while I'm making dinner, QP is the one..

They just need to do 3 Mech drops not 4. I won't talk about any IS/Clan balancing as I haven't played enough.

well for the QP match themed maps the change won't have such an impact most fo the times you can't even go through all your mechs. but the 240t on clanside will restrict the possibility to bring 2 KDK.
but it is sad because it will break my future dropdekc being a Supernova, Timber, Nova and adder. :/ and all that because of the kackbear.

No so long as the Mechs are good. A while back, I was using FP to level a Hunchback-IIC, it did well even without the unlocks.
Besides Mastering is not worth that much now with the new Skill Tree coming.
