Am I the only one that finds it annoying that you don't know which planet your dropping on for faction play? Also why can't we click on a planet that's under attack and see its status like before? I'm sure it doesn't really change anything since we can't control which planet we're dropping on like before. However it's nice to be able to see the progress or lack thereof.

You are not dropping on any specific planet.
As per the new 'tug of war' system established with FP 4.1, your wins and losses in invasion mode drive a counter up / down; when the counter is above a certain threshold, people will play the next game mode (progession is skirmish -> domination -> conquest -> assault -> invasion / counterattack). When the counter is at or above a certain threshold within the invasion bracket at ceasefire time, four planets will change ownership.

Re progress: Progress can be seen under the "War log" tab on the faction play screen. In the table where the upper half is orange and the lower half is blue, there is a black graph signifying progress for the two sides. If the graph is at the bottom of the blue area, it means that the clans are winning and are about to take four planets come ceasefire; and there will be invasion matches going on at the moment.

And the planets being fought for are shown on the interface for both IS and Clan controlled planets, a total of 8 planets, four for each side.

FP 4.1 is a joke with its "tug of war" BS.... you spend 90% of your time playing stupid QP maps/modes and if you don't play at JUST the right time during the attack phase you might never see an invasion map again... They've pretty much turned FP into QP with 4 mechs as the vast majority of the time you'll only be playing the QP content... FP maps weren't perfect but at least there was some semblance of a military goal to be achieved rather than the QP games feel of a fight just to have a fight with ZERO seeming military gain other than the destruction of enemy hardware. I spend most of my MWO game time in FP because all the QP maps have become extremely boring with their lackluster objectives.... However now there is no real difference between the two modes other than more mechs....
My real ***** with PGI over the maps has more to do with their lack of new map production... Rather than do some actual work and make use of all that money we've been dumping on them for pre-orders by creating some actual NEW content, they've instead just regurgitated all the old content into FP. OOOO lookie they filled FP with all those old maps I've played over and over, this is SO much better now I don't even care that they aren't making any new content other than more mechs for us to pay for (heavy sarcasm). PGI seems to spend all its time revamping their old crap maps rather than do some work that results in an INCREASE in the number of maps in the rotation. This game has PLENTY of mechs to choose from and as such the majority of the work PGI does SHOULD be in the area of increasing or enhancing the environment we fight in.

Faction play has gotten less fun with each new iteration... and the lack of new maps is downright shameful.
