FlareHeart swore by that. Said she used the hell out of it in an earlier Mechwarrior title.

As long as the Artemis would have had the all important Z axis control.... add they keyboard functionality of the mini-pad, it would have been fine.

Mine is 21 years old, and still works perfectly. Got it when I first got MW2, and used the same stick through MW4, PvE and PvP. Despite the myths to the contrary, in MW4, I could play at competitive levels with my VTR just fine.... and my Sidewinder had a lot to do with it. Great ergonomics, it was very accurate, at least I found it to be, on MW4, and simple...because everything you needed beside Lance Commands were right there.

I've tried about 20 sticks since... not one, so Logitech, Saitek, etc, comes close.

That's cool. Still haven't decided whether to get HOTAS for Star Citizen, but now I have another game that will be compatible. The question is: how fun is it really to play MW games with joysticks?

I REALLY wouldn't invest any money in anything MW5-related before it's actually out.I remember that I was as close as I would get to buying a HOTAS system for MWO after they announced the Razer thingy and promised all that stuff about MWO being simulation etc. Thank god I didn't. If we have learned one thing about PGI, it's that what they say and what they do are two totally different things. Frankly, even if they support HOTAS, chances are: It will suck.

I played the heck out of MW4 with my fathful sidewinder. Thumb throttle lever, drove two of the base buttons whiling holding the stick base in my left hand and taking aim then firing my death pew-pews with the buttons on the stick. Using the hat switch to look behind me (not supported in MWO) and change radar modes...man those were the days. I will be quite pleased to play a MW game built to support joysticks once again. MWO is supposed to support my joystick but somehow it never really works right, randomly refusing buttons and reversing the throttle and such.

My dad still has an old CH stick that required a gameport, solid controller. i have an X52 that I got secondhand for 20 bucks and its lovely.

X52 has a bit of a reputation for Z axis issues (spikes, and pulling... IDK if it just needs recalibration or if it's a mechanical weakness) which has bothered me. The other issue is simply ergonomics. The Sidewinder is (IMO) the Colt 1911 of controllers, they just got the overall ergonomics of the total package close to perfect. Comfortable, intuitive.

There's a reason those who had them, swear by em!

Yeah, I tried it several times, a couple years back... none of my sticks, Sidewinder, Saitek, Logitech ever really worked right. And despite a couple notable players protestations to the contrary, never seen a player using pure "stick" in MWO who actually was much of a threat. Which makes me sad, as a dedicated stick player until MWO.

I played MW4 only with a joystick. Excellent times were had.

Honestly, if we're gonna have joystick support for MW5 I'd like to see it done in a robotic control method. Almost like emulating a mouse with the Joystick. When I move it 45% over, that's 45% of my torso twist. That kinda thing. Give it that real mecha feeling. I think that it's called "Zero-Level" control, but I could be wrong.

And here I thought the joystick production facilities were a dying breed, same for simulation (and semi-simulators) games too.
Great news, might it lit up the interest in using joysticks and playing simulator games again! I myself started my gaming career with F/A - 18 Korea with joysitck Posted Image

damn right im playing with my joystick. absurd when you have to play a mech game with a mouse. just make the support really good, i expect support for both first and second order sticks.

It's going to be hard to go back to terrible aiming movement and slow/low/no aiming accuracy.

Are they adding stuff to use the button? like air plane sim? Or are we going to be simming with 3 weapon group button + forward/backward and be done with it?

Very, it's my absolute preferred control method for Mechwarrior 2, 3, and 4. To the point that, in my prime, I was outdueling mouse/keyboard players in competitive MW4 matches during the MekTek days.

a HOTAS is worth the money, if you get a good one, and if you play flight sims, space sims, and old mech games [and mech 5, apparently.]

Bryan Ekman confirms that MW5 is being developed with HOTAS support in mind.

So why didn't he make MWO play well with HOTAS then? If Russ is leading both projects it makes sense to expect the same level of delivery for MW5 as for MWO, so get hyped for MW5 only if you're happy with MWO.

Having played MW2: Mercs with my old Sidewinder Force Feedback stick my memory says playing MW games with joysticks (when the game is designed for such) is AWESOME!

Well ... Financialpost.com told us "Russ Bullock is as big a fan of the BattleTech universe as you’re likely to find". And we all know how that turned out for MWO and lore ...

Yeah!
Everyone knows that in 3015 Ravens were only controllable by joystick.
