No longer applies. With the Scorch, Spirit Bear, and Phaket joining the ranks of the Mad Dog, Stormcrow and Summoner brawler builds, it's even harder for the Griffin to hope to keep pace than it already was.

Clans have the advantage at all ranges now, if you think about it.

Also IS actually has to get into brawl range and hope you have a brawl friendly map.

It's not a recent thing

Clams, in brawl configs, have almost always been better at it
Quirks notwithstanding
cSPLs and cSRM+A are top notch

It never applied, clans always had better brawl builds because they get holy trinity of speed, firepower and durability. It's just that no one usually plays them because clan builds with better range are just so astoundingly good that it's rare for someone to even think about building a clan mech for pure brawling.

Many IS mechs just don't get the choice so brawlers is what we see.

My CSPL+ Flamer Nova is kicking arse in Scouting mode against brawler IS mechs. Can't believe I'm doing Heavy level damage per alpha.

Yep, welcome to clans. Their only disadvantage is heat and we keep getting heat sink buffs, heat cap increases, etc, so it doesn't even matter.

Huh. I actually find myself doing a decent job brawling, it's just the lack of backup that always gets me killed.

Seriously, I've take four 3025 legal IS mechs into Emerald Taiga and come out with second highest damage on my team via brawling. It does work.

That said, I don't own a griffin.

If PGi does an event where they reenact the battle of Tukayyid, and pit puggernauts in clan mechs against MRBC champs in is mechs, they can start the 15 year truce that was a result. Then they could make fw IS vs IS and Clan vs Clan with some mercs running around. That'd fix balance.

Was never even a real disadvantage. Clans could always drop their firepower to IS levels and run cold as ice if they wanted to.

I seem to remember this same argument during phase 1 of CW

I wonder what the best Brawler per class per side would be

Light: CSPL ACH or JR7 IIC with 6 SSRM2

Medium: CSPL+Flamer (optional) Nova or SKillcrow

Heavy: CSPL+ASRM Timberwolf

Assault: Scorch with 2 LBx20 + 4SRM6 (that splat kills even assaults in 2-3 hits) or 2 CUAC20 + 4SRM6

Bought my scorch on weekend so haven't got much drops in it, just a few so far, but they were brutal

I don't see a lot that the IS currently does better, except that it has 170 kph light mechs. The Griffin with SRMs + Flamers is great, but so are Clan medium mech SPL boats such as the Nova.

Clans own long to mid range engagement which will rip you apart while your attempting to close to brawl range. Once you do, you can enjoy a fine helping of Mad IICs, Kodiaks, and steak dogs. If you under the opinion that IS has superior ability at any range, you really need to go back and do the math.

well the real problem is a flaw in Battletech lore

just like in phase 1 of CW the invaders have to win or there is no invasion

if IS started out winning Clan players would leave the game

to have a game at this time stamp the Clans must win

so the flaw is both sides don't start of with equal areas of space

You do recognize that using two assault mechs and two heavies to illustrate how poorly a medium functions undercuts your argument rather handedly, quiaff?

The point is comparing what is widely considered the best brawler for IS. Jump jets on a medium, top of the medium weight tonnage, good hitboxes, and speed. Anything heavier for IS is boating UAC5s or ER/LLAS in a competitive deck.
