With the clans having complete tech superiority over the inner sphere , what can be done to make IS battlemechs worth taking instead? Possibly bringing some talent back to the great houses.

Lore wise , the clans have the tech advantage so we are right on top of that! while inner sphere mechs are old clunkers that are 300 years old so lets capitalize on that with some unique quirks for inner sphere mechs!

Ability 1 - Oil burn

After some time , the oil lines begin leaking into the reacter compartment , not unlike an old monte carlo. Your mech begins to spew out blue smoke all around it visually obstructing everything around you and causing you're enemies combat computer to lose its mind dropping target track.

Ability 2 - exhaust backfire

Your mech just can't get rid of heat like its used to , most likely due to rusted out exhaust vents. The heat from that fusion reactor just gets to hot and shoots fire out the back , giving anyone behind you a nasty heat spike while also leaving carbon dust all over there canopy.

Ability 3 - Critical meltdown

Your reactor is 300 years old , so who's telling whats wrong with this thing even after you took it to the dealership and they said its "fixed" Your mech goes into uncontrollable fusion reaction ending with you becoming a small hydrogen bomb! deals 400 damage to everyone within 600m while also leaving radioactive fallout for everyone else to enjoy.

ability 4 - Screw emissions

Your mech is now considered and antique and doesnt have to comply with those silly galatic c0 emissions. Your heat threshold is increased by 20% letting you shoot for that much longer! Also all that extra heat contributes to extra exhaust backfires.

ability 5 - Warranty expired

Your battlemechs factory warranty expired 200 years ago so why should you give a damn how you treat it? its time to add some horsepower man! extra 20kph unreliable speed boost due to aftermarket bolt ons but who knows when this things going to explode? contributes to critical meltdown explosion damage!. AND you can now mount an extra 10 tons of stuff , who cares about the integrity of the frame? that went away years ago!

Honestly, I would use the hell out of an Urby with these kind of boosts.

Melee. Fun factor alone would draw players towards the IS side.

Only one here I'd be fine with is a heavily nerfed stackpoling. Maybe... 30 damage explosion with a 60m radius, activates 3-6 seconds after death, with heat damage as well. Damage and heat drop-off the farther away you are. Obviously only from death by engine kills.

YEAH BOI!
Melee being IS-only would be soooo nice.
(Though there would be so many people whining about their Kodiaks not being able to punch with their claws, despite the fact that the claws were just aesthetic and would've just broken off when trying to punch)

Also, give IS quadrupeds for super-hill-poking

Hey now! Keeping quads to just the IS isn't fair! If you get your quads, we get the Stalking Spider!

In all seriousness, I think leaning on the lore for the 'ruggedness' of IS chassis to help prop up IS chassis is the right direction to go. That said, I'm not sure fire shooting out of the back of mechs is the right path to take.

Honestly, melee+most IS mechs just having stupid structure quirks would really help the Inner Sphere. Might make the fatass IS light mechs more viable while we're at it by giving them actual health.

Just imagine. You're in a kodiak-3. You turn the corner in your cheese double gauss double ppc build, licking your lips as you're about to pop some smelly IS scrub. Then an axeman is around that corner, and chops off your PPC arm. You hyperventilate, not knowing what to do, and you miss your gauss shot. The axeman dumps 4 SRM6+A into your CT and then finishes it with another melee blow to your open core. You cry in outrage, going nuts in all chat and accursing them of wall hacks and aimbots.

The problem is the Clans have two types of people:

1. Sadists who enjoy clubbing

2. Merc capitalists who club for money

The problem is they are both allied on the same side. Altering the economic realities will pull group two into the I.S. and result in better balancing. Its all potato here now.

I want to see big changes in the farming math. Also a universal contract randomizing of 1-7 days so large groups are not synching.

I once killed a mech by running into it with my atlas , i guess that counts

Yeah, but I have a feeling that we won't ever see melee implemented. For instance, we could have basic melee placeholder for punching/kicking added to the game in less than a week via some XML edits - just throw in some weapons that have a short range (like 5 - 10 m) and a flight speed (to simulate the 'movement' of the limb doing the attack). Then all that's missing are animations (which is a pretty big job), but you'll have a functional placeholder for melee. Then you just add this 'melee' weapon as a 0 ton, 0 slot weapon to all mechs that can use the attack.

Then we finally get a tech jump, and get the hilariously stupid Nova with a sword. Because Jihad/Dark Ages.
