The Attacker drop zone is too far away from the combat zone, or the defenders are too close. By the time the lights get up to start flipping radars, they're already in LRM range of the enemy assaults - lights die immediately.
In several drops I've been able to flip only one radar before dying, and that's because I changed to the trial Spider and turned and turned and turned for each volley that came at me.
Even then, the LRM Hell was a light rain of only maybe 1 mech shooting at me, and I was still completely useless for the next 45 seconds - how long it took for the turrets to shoot me down and just a couple more shots to kill me.
I have not seen the attackers win once in Polar Highlands Escort.
Not flipping radars gives the defenders too much of an advantage and the attackers are generally wiped out.
Also, this game mode strongly discourages light pilots. Still.

IMO, The turrets are too effective against lights.
I can't speak to much of the rest of your post, as I've too busy been working on mastering my MAD IIC.
