As for the nvidia 1070 not working is your mobo pcie 3.0?

I have no idea what you just said, lol.

My PC guy went on Riddick and chased down months of posts and found that no one could get the 1070 to work.

There is a number that stands for something that my motherboard is limited to. The number I think is 194 but I do not remember what it is. In theory, a 970 should work but is not.

From what I was told, my PC has some good parts but the motherboard is crap.

The above is a cache not being cleared out or there is a disconnect between client/server, I do not remember which.

Install and run it. File then save as txt file. Post the top section.

Based on your window screenshot

The Gateway family, after entering the BIOS by hitting F2 or Delete, you will want to navigate to “Authentication”. Under Authentication you will see Secure Boot which you will want to Disable. Now, navigate over to the "Boot Options" menu at the top and enter in the "Launch CSM" option and set it to always. You may also want to verify that the "Video OpROM" is set to "Legacy" Once those settings are changed you will be able to save and exit. When the computer starts into Windows shut it down, and install the graphics card normally. The graphics should now be displaying through the video card.

Your Gateway with the 3770 certainly has had more issues w/GPU upgrades than the other CPU in the FX class. It could possibly be something with the motherboard version.

When the newer card in it, does it give a black screen or does it get to the Gateway logo screen?

I start the game and it is is the top left of my screen. This is a picture of it atm after I pressed "settings". I cannot press setting again because I cannot reach it.

And I already deleted and reloaded which is really scaring me.

Don't be scared. This is a simple problem, and not a big deal. It's NOT because of your PC.

See that border around the game's window? That shows that it's running in a window. So, we need to change that.

Have it run in Full Screen mode instead.

How do we do that? There are a couple things to do - none of which involve deleting and reinstalling the game which WON'T work if it doesn't remove your user profile for MWO.

1) Move the window. To do this, press ALT+Space, then (after releasing those) press M, then you can use your arrow keys to move the window back onto the screen. You just need enough to go back into settings and change MWO to Full Screen mode.

or

2) Delete your graphics settings (this will cause MWO to reset to "first install" defaults, as if you've never installed it before). To do this, you need to go to your user folder in windows, which will typically be C:\users\[your windows username]\Saved Games\Mechwarrior Online

In that folder, delete game.cfg, which should reset all your graphics settings to defaults.

Incidentally, that whole folder can be backed up - in there is also your weapon groups, keybindings, and all that - those can be copied over to the ....\Saved Games\MWO PublicTest folder to copy your current MWO settings to the public test server if you want to.

I'm deeply worried about your "PC guy". Honestly, he sounds either grossly incompetent or that he's outright scamming you, but without seeing things myself, I couldn't say anything for certain. This whole thing is nowhere near as complicated as it's being made out to be, though; it's a very simple problem.

As to "what your motherboard can take" that I can tell you easily. Hit your windows key, type cmd and hit enter. That'll open a command prompt.

Paste in there: wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer, version, serialnumber

and post what it responds. It'll look like this:

(except it won't say meshlab server, don't worry about that)

Once we know what your motherboard is, we can tell you exactly if it can or can't run that.

Edit: Well, we've got the stock motherboard ID'd at least!

Nevermind, Tarl has you sorted.

For reference, the stock motherboard in a Gateway FX6860 is the Acer IPISB-VR. This has 1x PCE Express 2.0, so it'll run a 1070. Its got a 500w or 750w power supply(gateway's specs are unclear), so it should be fine with regards to power.

A long shot, but you can see my location on the left here, on the off chance your anywhere near me, feel free to send me a PM and I'll get you sorted out in person, for free.
