GXP, only use for consumables at this point,, Unless you really want a mech module and get it refunded in a couple months..
XP for mechs...
You must OWN the mech to spend XP.... (under skills tab)

GXP is very slow to earn. Not exact on this but more or less think about it like this, for every 8 points of Mech XP you earn, you will get 1 General XP.
Sometime this January we should be seeing a major change to the skill tree system and all XP you earned and used is going to be refunded as 'GXP'. So there is that.

if you go to skills, select the Mech type from the list, and check the Mech skills how much XP does it show?
you accumilate Mech XP at a rate roughly 20 times faster than General XP. so if you have 891 GXP and you have only been using the one Mech (although I would be surprised if you had not treid more than one Trial Mech) you would have about Mech XP, enough to complete all the basic skills with about 3000 XP left over
bear in mind the still system is probably changing mid Feburary, at which point you will have all xp and cbills spent on Mech skills and modules refunded, also the requirement to purchase multiple Mechs to complete the skill tree is being removed

I've not played in quite awhile so I did not know about this GXP refund. Is it gonna be all our spent GXP, like since the game started?

When the new (rumored and some info leaked) skill system, anything you've earned so far for skills will be reimbursed, but instead of as Mech exp, it will be reimbursed as general experience. Any general experience you may have already spent for things like modules (for example) will also be reimbursed as well as any C-bills spent on said modules (as C-bills, not as experience (I'm trying to be funny here, so laugh at me!)). This is because skills will be assigned by the individual selected mech, not all of the chassis/variants of that mech. (AKA: If you own two Crab 27s, instead of them each having the same skills unlocked (what currently happens), you can unlock different skills for each Crab 27, customizing it's skills based on what it is intended to do.)
This is not suppose to happen for a few months time (Feb is the tentative release of the new skill system). So, if you really wish to spend some Exp and C-bills on modules (non-consumable ones I might add), it wouldn't be an all bad idea, as you'd get a few months of play out of it before it gets reimbursed back to you.
For extra clarity, this is NOT in the game yet, and we are still in the same old skill system.

at Mechcon Russ Bullarch (president of PGI) said all XP from skills and modules would be refunded as "Legicy GXP" so it may be a new GXP pool with some limitations on how it can be spent, hopefully not but we will not know until more information is released over the next 6 weeks or so (assuming it hits the Feburary ETA russ gave us)

(Was trying to post this last night, but MW:O forums seemed to have stopped working for me.)
no EXP for you Jester 3XT...
Which type of experience are you talking about? General experience (grows very slowly over time) or mech experience?
If you are talking about mech experience, presuming you are looking in the right places, you may have a bug. One I've never heard nor seen before. If this is the case, than contact support via E-mail. Give them some time. They are very helpful, but sometimes it takes a while for them to get to you.
However, I will ask:
- Do you own that mech? If you don't own it (say... you are using one of the free trial mechs at the moment), you will not be able to select nor see skills to unlock. Use to not even be able to see any experience on said mech, but that was changed some time ago, so you should see how much experience you've earned. Trial mechs can still earn experience, but you can't spend that until you actually own said chassis/variant yourself.
- Are you looking at the correct experience pool? There are two (as previously established by others) different pools to look at. The end of match screen only shows how much mech experience you've earned, not the general experience. (Just restating this for completeness.)
- If you are looking at the right experience pool and you own the mech in question, are you looking at the correct variant of that chassis in the skills tab? Should also be displayed on the home tab in the game, so I'd imagine you are looking at the right pool for the mech you are using now.
- Just to cover everything (even the stupid stuff), you aren't somehow dropping in the testing grounds or academy, right? You don't earn anything there.
- You also are not dropping in a private lobby, right? That also wont earn you any experience on your mechs...
I think I got most of the options. Without showing you via screenshot, I can't really help point out where this information is for you. But, as you said you have been around for a while, I'm presuming you know your way around the UI...

I had a similar experience a few days ago, but with C-Bills.

It won't matter much where the Legacy GXP comes from - but it will only be usable for buying 'mech skills under the new system. Which is... pretty much everything it's used for now, if you recall that the weapon modules and the like are being rolled into the new system. =)
