OP, you are sadly wrong.

If MM was turned off then all the T5 potatoes farming matches would actually stop increasing their PSR, and thus it would have been less potatoes in T1 matches. But due to MM not being turned off every persistent enough potatoe eventually becomes a T1-potatoe which makes overall MM'ing worse every day.

I assumed many children playing on their parents accounts.
I assumed people lied about being tier 5, because Russ himself said tier 2 would never face tier 5. Russ wouldn't lie to us no would he?
Potato level in tier 2 has been high since the Dec 10-11 weekend.

All that tiers mean to the potato class of pilots is that the potato has been a potato for long enough to eventually move from potato to mashed potato at T4, hash browns at T3, french fried at T2, and tater tot at T1.

They are all still potattes, just slightly higher class of potato.

I have no idea why it's like this. It's the Christmas holidays, the number of people playing MWO is probably a lot higher than usual. Yet the quality of matchmaking is going straight into the crapper.

Anecdotal evidence in the spoiler below, but anyone who has been playing in the solo queue these past few days or keeping an eye on the forum know what I'm talking about already.

Just got out of a match with my just-for-fun gauss rifle Shadowcat. Even with only 25 rounds of ammunition, I got the top score. I wasn't even playing very well, I was almost standing still in open terrain, just shooting at people who were new to the game and didn't know how to control their mech.

Anyone who has played with me or have checked my stats know that I'm not a particularly good player, even for Tier 2.

I know it's an established fact that a lot of "weekend warriors" arep laying during holidays and such, but that doesn't explain why MM has just given up.

Spoiler

I am often up late and have a few accounts I play with. 4am Eastern there is a mix bettween players I know that are tier 1, and tier 4 players at the least if not tier 5. I say this as I have an account I intentionally stunted to stay in tier 4 for a bit (much easier to level mechs if you are doing 700-1000 damage a game and getting 3-6 kills).

During my prime time however on this account I am not really seeing or playing against known tier 1 guys. So I think it has a lot to do with when you are on. Daytime/mornings can be really hit or miss and if you have a good connection seems to be better to choose euro servers.

Not sure if your experience is similar or not.
