Compared to the meta, it is bad. Spread damage is no bueno.

It's a fun casual weapon, and if you have 3 or 4 of them or a mech with ludicrous cooldown quirks (CN9-D) it can be nasty. But it still isn't anything better than a gimmicky, casual play, poops'n'giggles kinda' thing. Nothing you'd want to use in a competitive environment.

The following meme has been accurate since the first day MWO had an LBX and it will probably stay relevant for years to come.

Except it's not accurate any more. It does have an actual ~20% bonus to damage versus structure. As in an LB10X will be doing 12 damage against an juicy backside. The spread is remarkably improved as well. Well an LB10X is worse than an AC10, is doesn't spread the damage quite as bad as an UAC10, either.

Of course, if I were to call for a buff, I'd say improve the critical damage (that is to say, the damage transfered from damaged equipment) or crit chance further. How about ~50% damage.

So to answer the OP: LB20X is a good deal. The Spread is manageable in the short range of 20 damage cannons. It's a trade off for the UAC20, which will have a long duration (so less twisting), but will be able to do more damage if you can double tap.

Considering how old the image is, it's surprising no one has fixed it yet. It's an LB 10-X, not an LBX-10.

As for the original question, LB-Xs are fun. They don't work particularly well on their own, but put two together and they work well enough, particularly if you use them to abuse mechs that have already taken a bit of a beating. Combine them with some SRMs and they work pretty well as sand blasters.

Not the best competitive weapon, though. But not everything can be magnetic.
