It will almost certainly force me to play the game differently if I want to be competitive, probably significantly restructuring my personal time to offset the advantage others have gained and forcing me to focus on personal training over just playing casually, so that I might catch up with at least a portion of the player base. It's unreasonable to suggest it's an entirely equitible method, it clearly favours the lucky over the unlucky

Doesn't mean it's unfair, though. We knew what we were getting into when we signed up and it applies to everyone. We had an equal chance of being one of the lucky ones and we just plain haven't been lucky.

IF keys are sent out today, it will likely happen at 4-5 PM, Vancouver time. In other words, 10-11 hours from now.

We're all dying to play, here, but we'll get the game on the 7th.And even then, it's Beta, it's not finished, things will change before we can get used to them, and we'll be expected to actually test.

Shaking a bag and pulling out 2000 names would be very time consuming, and would delay intake into beta I think

What day you chose to spend your money is not a matter of luck. There are obviously going to be strong correlations as far as who chose to buy it on day 1 was concerned. By your argument, it would be unfair that people can't buy founders after release as that's merely a matter of 'luck', so founders should never end.

They're not inviting 2000 people a go because they want professionally written bug reports. They want players playing the game in a realistic fashion to get realistic data. Regardless, the fact that beta players can't magically forget everything they've learnt when the game finally comes out means they do have an advantage. That's an inequality, regardless of whether it's intentional. I suspect it's not perceived as a problem, since it's still fair.

I agree with you but at the same time, no. Skill obviously can be gained over hardcore grinding, if you do it enough you'll get good at it in most cases.

This is a false assumption. The amount of effort you need to put in to meet the minimum standard to let your 'natural talent' shine through (at least in a decent competitive game) is roughly the same order of magnitude that all the other best players are putting in. Your hypothesis holds up in local gaming, even up to provincial tournaments. However when your competition is the best of millions of people your innate skill does not become a factor until you bring your acquired skill up to a representative level. We can derive from this that more people that play the game, the worse this effect is.
In other words, to maximise the impact of your natural skill you need to make sure you're putting in around the same ballpark number of hours as your competition. It also means, curiously, that natural skill is less of a factor for players of modern video games than it was in the past (because the numbers of players were lower back then), except amongst hardcore professional players (who put in the hours regardless) where natural skill always plays a strong factor.
Addendum: This works for any sport. If we consider football, no matter how talented you are after only two weeks of practice you are not going to be equal to any professional footballer. However once you put your years of training in, your talent becomes much more relevant.

I'm sitting at the pending club from hour 1 of founders programm. It's hellishly upsetting, but it's kinda bad luck...

Personally, my little gamer's heart skips a beat when I come here and see that blue "Register" button instead of my yellow "Pending" one after logging in. For a split second I think "Yeah, I'm IN!" and then I realize I haven't logged in yet. Every time.
