I had the pleasure of brokering peace with them and Eridani Light Pony back in the early days of the beta... Some of those guys are pretty chill, Vass was pretty cool and all, but other's.. well like you said, it's 4Chan.

I like the mode, so bring on the hate. It gets people to move, and promotes engagement at places on the map other than the usual boring places we have stood and fought so many times previously.

Personally, I'd feel more immersed if, rather than a walking mech, we were escorting some other important thing: trailers hauling lostech, new technology fusion reactors, non-functional experimental mech on a flatbed, etc. but hey this is PGI. I'll take what I can get.

The least the VIP could do is let us know what @!#$ing path he's going to take. That would be a useful tidbit of information to help protect him.

For those hating on skirmish - it is an objective in itself. Identifying an opposing force and attempting to eliminate them is probably a more valid objective in warfare than any other.

Oh, really? Why is that? If you don't have a good reason, then don't even try to hate people for wanting a particular mode. Posted Image

Personally, I hate Skirmish and everyone's "Call of Duty/Counter-Strike/Halo/etc."-based insanity towards voting for it... But no, I don't hate people for such directly, just their mentalities, because they're still learning. Being that I started with Activision's "MechWarrior 2" and Microprose's "MechWarrior 3", I grew up with the thought/idealism that Objectives are supposed to ALWAYS be a part of things. Being that Skirmish doesn't involve anything more than fighting, and not any actual Objective, it is therefore NOT in the 'Spirit Of MechWarrior' to me. Frankly, I wish people would vote for Conquest a lot more than they do now. Posted Image

I'd have to disagree. By my recollection, there were several missions in MW2,3,4 whose objective was the elimination of enemy forces at various locations ... aka skirmish. In addition, the "Instant Action" button that featured fairly prominently in serveral MW titles was also just skirmish.

So, in my opinion, the entire skirmish game mode is a part of the previous MW video game franchises even if it does play a more sizable role in MWO than in previous titles (simply because of the nature of the game).

Keep in mind that the previous MW titles were mostly story driven single player PVE titles. Many of the previous mechwarrior based PVP implementations were actually more like skirmish (consider netMech and MW:LL as examples).

HEY! You've actually got a good idea there. Back in "MechWarrior 2", there were missions somewhat like that. Heck, that kind of convoy you describe would work visually perfect with the Polar HighLands map, strangely enough. Plus, it would give PGI a way to change up what's being escorted. More dimension to the gameplay equals better gameplay, right? :)

So you feel that fighting the other team is not an objective. Since skirmish wins more often then not you should be able to accept that your opinion is in the minority. Calling out people's 'insanity' and insulting solid games that people enjoyed also seems to be a weird form of Battletech elitism that is not dissimilar to the elitism some have expressed towards the 'meta' game.

Please remember that your idea of what the 'spirit of Battletech' is or isn't, is just your opinion. To follow your p.s. as well, it doesn't make sense to insult a mindset towards skirmish while calling out someone for hating people choosing a mode that is quickly becoming even less popular than conquest.

Also, this is a forum. A place where people are free to express their opinion and feeling about this game. This is not a formal debate, so no one is obligated to share with you any evidence or material that support their views or feelings towards something. On top of that you don't get to be the arbiter of what may or may not be a 'good' reason, especially in a post I started.

I wouldn't mind it having a derpy build even if it can shoot, AC10s, LL and LRMs would be fine. And though it's stupid, it's still going to be a 13v12, so it's going to rile up others.

Well instead of the turrets having some meds I would at least like the Atlas to be firing them instead.

Killing the VIP is nothing more than "assault" with a moving target with lots of defenders.

We're still there blowing up enemy mechs and wreaking havoc.

The alleged "VIP" is defenceless. He must rely on others to shoot for him. He is by all accounts an 'enemy non-combatant'.

We cannot allow PGI to make war criminals of us all.

We must stop shooting him. At the very least we need to put our foot down as a community and not vote for Escort mode until something is done.

Yeah, i wouldn't mind trading those pesky turrets and radar, for the ability to actually flank, ambush, for scouts to be a viable part of search-and-destroy, as well as a not-dumb-**** atlas, that torso-twist, that shoots, and is not a total helpless *** despite all the weight.

Honestly, even if it's as derpy as Not-so-totally-helpless-but-is-still-a-threat-despite-not-great-at-a-particular-role-ATLAS-VIP-with-ECM-BTW. That would be nice.
