Well pick a build that is heat neutral like ballistic or another form of heat neutral build that you can come up with. THEN pick hot maps and only hot maps. Example of hot maps, would be; Terra Therma, Tourmaline Desert, or Veridian Bog. Then go wreck face.
OK, so you hate meta mechs like the lrm boats ... damn rain keeps falling on my head, right?
Well then pick a mech and build that can get in close and mix it up with them lazy people who sit in the back. NEXT, pick maps with cover, or usually fought in areas of cover. So here you solution is ANY MAP OTHER THAN ALPINE PEAKS AND POLAR HIGHLANDS!!!
Sounds easy and simple doesn't it. And yeah I know don't ***** to me about it but you will have to play on some maps you don't want to (hence why you get a multiplier in voting). So suck it up buttercups.
Also I do not call lrms meta but some people who do not know what or how to use cover do.

And I dont mind hot maps with that.
Current K/D is 5.06.
Avg damage 688 per game.
... and LRM are useless. Don't use them, it's bad for you.

When I want to brawl I take the canons, when I want to stay on the side-lines and get high damage points from behind a hill I get into my troll builds. I hate LRm's but sometimes I have to respond fire with more fire.
I tend to use lasers as secondary weapons on articulated arms for quick response against fast mechs.

What is this, 2015? The meta is PPC+Gauss or autocannons, aka all PPFLD. Get with the times.
No no no no, PPC Gauss was meta back during poptart days. When they nerfed the gauss to charge up and then it became PPC AC5.
So get with the times

Or PPC+Gauss Night Gyr. Or PPC nipple Summoner. Or PPC Hunchback IIC's for poptarting mediums. Or Gauss+PPC Mad IIC. Or- Well, do I really need to continue?

You all heard it hear first, folks. SRMs are officially the new meta, because they can kill twice as many mechs without overheating as lasers, when fighting against static opponents that don't move or fight back.
New Meta! By Bombast!
I apologize for the audio, was watching Star Trek when I captured that.

Here is why meta still laser vomit:
Good job showing that yes, if the enemy is a set of non-moving targets that refuse to twist damage, and you use cool shots, lasers are powerful. But you have to remember that, y'know, most of the time the people you're fighting aren't that stupid, and you only have 2 cool shots at most in a match if you even load them up like a scrub. Meanwhile, gauss+PPC's can smack you with their PPFLD incredibly quickly from a range without broadcasting your position, or turning your mech into an overheating wreck.

Easy. SRMs. Dual AC/20s only do 40 damage alphas, while a Quad SRM6s do 48 alphas. And properly built, you can even back up those SRMs with more weapons for better alpahs! Here's a Jagermech build that'll wipe the floor with those Ballistic Jagers. It'll even out damage Dual Gauss Jagers, which can only do 30 damage alphas!
It even comes with back up AC/2s! An AC/20 Jager can't do that!

No, it's laser-vomit meta unless the mech can't carry enough lasers. Gauss Rifles are essentially krap in MWO due to the charge-up. Players sure fear them though, I think 2xGauss Rifles are a meta-fear, but once discovered the weapons have such low DPS per ton they can't defend the mech and they explode. Metas are good, but the best mechs have a strong tactic. Like LRMs are garbage, but as a suppression weapon they are outstanding. They force other players out of their tactic, just don't expect LRMs to get any kills, your primary weapons will get the kills.
MWO gameplay is deeper than just a meta.

It's actually the other way around...mechs that carry lasers generally do so because they don't have the tonnage to handle PPCs/Gauss. That, or they use lasers because they do have enough hardpoints to pack a gigantic alpha strike that compensates for being DoT.
Also, stop using your steering wheel experiences as an argument for how to balance weapons.
