Found a fun way to panic a mech pilot at range where they cannot touch you. step one find a mech that is most likely unable to reply with counter fire and then step 2 proceed to use er lrg lasers to either crit a leg or blow the leg off completely. Far easier than to try and penetrate a torso with the same lasers since alot of people tend to snip a bit of armor from legs so they can have heavier weapon loads.

A couple of my more notable successes along this road was stripping the leg armor off a clan heavy mech that had er ppcs and with the clan er large lasers in the peaks on a hunch 2c with range module and a edge of range to where i took minimal damage from those ppcs i alsmot took his leg too. after i got a crit he ran to escape my fire. Also did the same on a party gargoyle in the FC but could not take his leg. he burned part of his legs to close the distance and i was forced to run.

Technically a Clan mech with CERPPC can reply against IS ERLL mech. Gonna be hard to hit at extreme distance though. I do know many Clan dakka boats, as well as Linebackers, strip a lot of leg armor.

I've found that being in an urbanmech strikes fear into my enemies regardless of where I am on the map or whether they know if I exist or not.

Maybe you're jesting there, but you're actually right. I swear half the Kodiaks I see fail to break 200 damage. Urbies, not so much, it really feels like they're preferentially piloted by people who know their stuff.

Heh, last night some dude was running around in a SRM bomber Commando 3A. I was cracking up watching him zip right in and go for legs. Then that basturd came after me, LOL.

I told this story before but this is my best story of a panicked pilot.

It was an STK on the Alpine Peaks map on the big hill leading to campers top. He was right in the middle headed down. By chance our team had like 5 TAG's. All of the Tags were on him suddenly as he is sitting in the middle, he started turning left, then right then around. :) Amazing how much panic can show through on an 85 ton assault. :)

Yep, the argument against clan ER larges is how easy it is to torso twist the damage, but legs, on the other hand.. and even if you can't hit the legs, with practice you can keep hitting their torso despite their twisting anyway. I just don't take them often because it feels wrong to have a mech that far back, not using its armor..

I target legs in conquest mode, sometimes.

The theory being mechs don't cap well on only 1 surviving leg.

I've legged a lot of AFK's flanking behind the enemy team and poking them in the leg repeatedly with 1 ER large laser.

Smart players will turn and face their dead leg towards you so that you can't shoot their good leg (though their dead leg) and finish them.

Smarter players would drop an artillery strike on the legged mech and be done with it. :>

I think this is the culmination of a lot of things. Kodiaks have a huge range of potatoes using them because, as the Alpha mech, everyone want's a piece of that OP action. The Urbanmech, on the other hand...

- Has a poor reputation, so the only people consistently playing it are those who are at least willing to deal with some negatives, and are more likely to be able to do so
- Has poor speed, so it's inherently less likely to bungle its way into a bad position
- 360 torso twist is truly over powered
- It's actually a good mech, and all the people calling it a trashcan are just baddies who don't want everyone to know about this monster. I'm pretty mediocre, and I was able to do some pretty nasty things in an Urbanmech, including outscoring Kodiaks

Urbanmech is really just held back by ferro fibrous being impossible to take because of the 10 heat sink minimum requirement and the mandatory DHS cbill tax if you want to ever cool off.. that said, it does pretty well and is largely ignored by good players.

You can fit Endo and FF on an urbie. You just need to run single HS. With good fire discipline, its not a problem.

Honestly, I really hate cERLLas, but the closer the Supernova gets to releasing, the more I want it. The x6 cERLLas lore build would actually be something that I am almost positive I can make work. I did testing with a Kodiak that I modified to have the correct heat sinks, and by god with proper chainfiring it could be one assault I'd actually be able to pilot. But also I have no cash so bloody RIP.

Oh, right, the OP's subject. Personally, I almost never leg people, just out of habit from dueling, since it's really un-fun to leg people in duels. I should probably aim for legs more often.

When I ride CN9-AH with AC20 and 3SRM4 I can see sometimes a lone long range peek-poker or LRM Boats panicking when I close to them sneakily. Their long range weapons not very effective when I brawl them to their doom. It's really fun to see their fear when I put my AC20 and splat to their faces.

I gave up on the urbie once it became clear that there was no viable way to mount any dakka bigger than a UAC/5 on it with any useful amount of ammo. (no the std60 is not viable)
If only 10HS weren't necessary and those 3 tons could be used for ammo instead..

There are some decent laser builds but I don't want to play urbie if I can't have a big gun.

If it had missile hardpoints it could be the ultimate lurm kiter.

I thought you can already mount 6 cERLLs on existing chassis. What's so special about Supernova? You know Terra and Tourmaline will be the most picked map when it drops right? Posted Image

Only lore build with 6 cERLLas in the game. And lore builds are everything.
