I used to play a while back but stopped for a while. I came back and it looks pretty different with the community warfare added. But I have questions.
If I join a faction and do faction play battles, and if my faction takes over everything does something happen?

If I am in a faction that loses all its planets. What happens?

I'm holding off on joining a faction until I know a little about what's actually going on.
What is the point of faction play? Please help me understand.

Faction Home World, and the Terra cannot be capture, so there will always be a battlefront.
Once in awhile there will be special event that will reset the territory map.

Similar to above, Home World planet will always belong to your faction and form a battlefront around it.

For people who enjoy organized play, and have some sense of achievement in the game.
Also for injecting some lore into the game.
Personally, I just to fly my favourite faction's flag on my forum account although I am more active in solo.

Thanks for the info. Basically no penalty for losing is how i see it. And no substantial reward for winning eithrr.
I read there is no "skill level matchmaker" in FW.

From your answers it seems to me like FP is just for if i wana experience Clan mech VS IS mech battles, with no matchmaker.

Something like that.
More for Unit vs Unit.

I would say more for group on group in phase 4.1. Units are less germane now that you have a bigger pool for randoms to group.

True.
Unit seem to have moved to private match.
FP still see unit group of 4 or 8.

Nothing apparently.
CW 1.0 was announced to be the reenactment of the Clans Invasion into the Inner Sphere post the capture of Phelan Kell.
Player should have been able to choose to act as member of one of the original 4 invading clans, as IS Merc or as IS loyalist.
And from what I've seen then it was pretty fun.
PGI then failed to deliver more maps and CW centered game modes and ppl stoped playing it out of boredom.

CW 2.0 was a second try with some new maps and more mechs and some adjustments made but basicaly the same.
After some month without any change player numbers degenerated to a low number of hardcore fans that additionaly drove any newbys away.

Somewhere around this Time (summer last year) I mostly stoped playing CW/FW/FP because after some patch my computers performance on FP mps droped to a below zero level.

CW 3.0 beginning this year was a much awaited revam since bad bad IGP was history now and PGI could have risen from the ashes to do it right this time.
Instead we got Longtomageddon, Streakcrowcalypse mode...ähhhh... I ment to say scout mode and the from behind anhilation of each and every good IS mech performed by "rescaling" them.
Additionaly the new mechs that came this year on IS side where okish at best and plain useless for CW...äh sorry FW....nonono now I've got it..... FP.
In contrary to IS Clans got Kodiaks, Night Gyrs, Huntsman, and MAD IIC.

And now with the Quickplayisation of FP 4.1 we play 70% QP maps.....the only new game mode is in QP and...well...nothing.

Casuals and Pros get still thrown together and there is simply no sign of any content showing.

It is and will be just a framework where ppl can create their own content appart from the game !!!!

Units still have to negotiate for invasion targets among themselfs, with the added problem that PGIs stellar idea of buckets gets in the way and there is absolutely no sign that there will be any kind of strategic faction targets or mission targets or anything that justifiys waring over a planet, region or whatever.

FP is where you go if you are sick of the standard QP Nascar and actually want to work as a team and are not into Comp stuff like MRBC and other tournaments etc. QP tonnage issues with 8-12 players sucks, and it doesn't exist in FP, everyone has the same tonnage available and can use it as the group sees fit.

It's kinda a middle ground between the Tour and QP, of sorts. A big generalisation but it does usually mean you'll need to play better than in QP, especially QP solo drops.

There is no match maker and getting in a group is IMO, mandatory. Solo dropping is just crap, and always will be in the "team zone" that is FP.
