Omnipods in MWO are different from Battletech. We think of them as the housing for different hard point layouts but they would really just be the modular containers for weapons and equipment that go on a omnimech. So this doesn't mean we would be able to interchange hard points between omnis, but it does suggest cross tech would be possible with those mechs.

Actually if they wanted to fix the omni-pods issue they would simply have a set number of weapons per variant and maximum numbers of weapons per location. It would be up to the pilot to position and setup where and what type they want. The problem is everyone will cry for every high mounted option that exists for omnimechs.

That would provide theme the versatility that omnimechs are known for.

The omnipods are NOT interchangeable, the weapons are... so basically an IS onmi can mount clan weapons in there pods. Also is you look at the way omnipods work in lore you have a certain amount of tonnage and crit space. And you can mount any item in them that does not exceed tonnage or crit space limits. So having said that. You could actually mount clan weapons on IS non omnimechs but it would have to have the special coupling and it would be permanent. That does not apply with mwo as no items are considered fixed normally. In lore , barring a major overhaul, the weapons and such on a non omnimechs do not change.
