[ENOVA]

Hello. Want to share with what I've found. It's a christmas present for you and myself.

If your MechWarrior Mercenaries crashes at start with black screen, all you need to do is enable Directplay.
I have a Win8.1 and I had this problem. There was black screen and words "Nested exception..."

If you still have a troubles, could help to make a shortcut with /gosnovideo
Still bad? Put there -noautoconfig as well.
Example: "D:\GAMES\MW4\Mechwarrior Mercenaries\MW4Mercs.exe" /gosnovideo -noautoconfig
