So I was spectating the other day and saw someone in an IV-Four. I've long since held the opinion that Quickdraws are the ugliest and stupidest looking mech I'd ever seen (at least until the Wolverine) but this thing was pumping out LB-10X rounds at quite a satisfying rate and seemed to be a little sturdier than the game's other dual shotgun specialist, the Legend Killer.
Now they're on sale, I find my interest piqued, but of course it always begs the question - is the variant worth it? For once, I don't care about two other variants since the rule of three will (apparently and/or hopefully?) be done away with in a couple months (admittedly it'll be a hard wait for getting elite skills until then).
Since I already have Legend Killer for shotgunning, I'm thinking of taking AC10s instead - is it even remotely a good idea?
IV-FOUR
Options include getting rid of the AMS for another jump jet

EDIT: Because I just realised the title I gave the thread - how are Top Dog for an overheating laser brawler and Butterbee as an LRM mech?

Warhammer has been working great for me so would recommend the Black Widow before the IV-Four

Can't say enough good things about Thunderbolts in general

No good with LRMs but the Butterbee looks like a money making CPLT-C4

It cannot spam SRM6s and with 4 lasers instead heat becomes an issue. But in general, yes.

I’m curious now about the IV-4.

i love my IV-4 with 2 lb10 and 2 med lasers. Is a good mech for community games, not for pugings

IV-4 with 2AC10s an 2 ML, 1JJ and an XL280 is excellent for CW hot maps, but only if you know how to use it and understand how to compensate for those low arm mounts. It is a lot of fun, but it can also be a real chore for the uninitiated. There is a reason that metamechs has it listed as one of the lowest ranked heavies. My favorite shot gun build is a a std 250 or 260 with just the 2LBX10s, 1JJ and All the ammo you can fit (maybe 5-6 tons). With cool down module it is a great face tanker, if you are into that sort of suicidal type play. Regardless, do keep in mind that the only thing making the IV-4 even remotely playable are the quirks and who knows what PGI will do to them when the skills tree revision drops.

Topdog is another fun mech but not any more useful than the others. If you are going to ml/MPLlaser spam or LPL with it I think the SS or the SE are respectively better, so I run a funky build of 8SPL and a PPC (in the arm). Std 300 moves you at 80KPH and you can fire pretty much at will.

Don't have the Butterbee.

My first ever mech was a Cataphract -4X, which is 'nuff said for being used to low mounts Posted Image
I'm also not purposefully suicidal but there's nothing so satisfying as barrelling into people with cannons blazing left and right. I just so happens that suicide tends to be an unfortunate side effect of this sort of gameplay

Last sale i wanted a good mech for lbx10s and bought both IV-4 and Legend Killer. Second one was my focus, IV-4 i picked up at the last minute, just for fun.
Now IV-4 is inches away from mastering. Legend Killer - dunno... may be not even basiced. It's a good second line mech, just not my style. In terms of ballistic brawl its inferior to IV-4 by a large margin. I've never lost a clear duel to an assault in my 60 ton QuirkDread (although havent had a rendez vous with KDK-SB or AS7-S yet).
This build i used - more burst dps for hunting and destroying. Plain dual ac10 is an option for mid range skirmish.

But yes, as pointed above, i fear the new skill tree will nerf it heavily. Not because of lack of new "points" but because it probably wouldnt have an ability to build up a 47% reduction of cooldown (in other words - to make your dual ac10 a "quad" ac10).
