Except for clan omnis, and especially DWF pilots...you're NOT stuck with the stock engine size. If you're being dropped constantly, perhaps you should up-rate your engine choice on the mech. There comes a time when every player learns that speed & mobility is more important than armor and firepower. Its all about striking the right balance. I'd much rather a quicker heavy for example, that can match the speed of a medium. In battletech... low speeds didn't matter because of how the movement and combat systems worked around those small maps we used to play on. But in this game, with LARGE maps and much increased weapon ranges...mobility is much more important.

There's another thread going today about why we don't have the Annihilator. See above. A 100 ton mech with the speed of an stock Urbanmech would be utterly useless in MWO. You want to see how bad... take a KCG or a Kodiak or Atlas, and fit it with a 200 rating engine. I actually spectated a KDK-3 the other night where the pilot did that exact level of stupidity. Quad Gauss and 4 ERML and top speed was 38.3. If it hadn't been a fight in the urban landscape of the river city map... and instead been say t-desert, alpine peaks or polar highlands.... he'd have been lunchmeat for dozens of other mechs. Hell even a stalker would have run circles around it.

i figure people who run builds like this dont have a lot of mechs in their hanger.

I've been noticing that exact thing, King crabs are very often piloted by newer players buying their first assault or something it seems. I really don't know what pulls them all to it, maybe its the name, maybe its the crab part, maybe its some funny joke. Most serious players who did good in the King Crab using ballistic builds moved onto better mechs as they came out such as the Mauler and Kodiak, same with Dire Wolf Pilots moving to the Kodiak, leaving only the poor players who don't play often enough to grind cbills or the people who aren't competitive in those slow old clunkers.

No matter the match or the mech you are in, take time to find your assaults.

And if you are an assault, don't wait at the back.... EVER!

Nope. I drop in assault mechs regularly and often get dropped 2 grids away. It doesn't take long for the lights and mediums to ditch the assault lance.

This happens to me often. Today, I got left behind three times in my Assault mech and each time a enemy light or medium mech came up behind me and shot me in the back. I find this type of behavior annoying and really kills the game experience for me. In my opinion, the Assault Mech Dire Wolf I use is not worth much as it turns slower than any Assault mech I have used in the past and this should be fixed where a light mech cannot take advantage of this mistake. I know some will disagree and that's ok as we all have a difference of opinion.

Use VOIP and chat to tell the lance to wait for you beforehand--remind them that they are gonna lose 100 tons worth of mech otherwise. Works well, even in pug queue. VOIP makes people listen more. I can even get 1-2 ECM light mechs to escort me if I ask nicely.

This is a barely acceptable complaint from the assault lance but from the mediums? Nope, big bag of nope. It's entirely their own fault if they find themselves out of position and isolated.

TL/DR - no sympathy for them

At least 90% of the time it is not even acceptable from Assaults... they complain about going slow but in reality they are not moving across the map correcting (and stopping every time they get brushed by a medium laser at 538m.) So generally... you need to keep yelling at people to keep up cause they will stop and hide at every opportunity they can find. If people will not keep up or wander off even after they are told to stay together... I find it most effective to use them as bait if it is 2-3 Mechs. If it is 4-6 mechs then either the team needs to move with them or just accept that you are going to lose, then you hunker down in a good defensive position and let them damage the enemy so the good players who stayed together to get some kills before the game is lost.

Yes, they do. Half of the time, it's actually a DWF doing the complaining.

I blame the person using slow mechs. I had someone screaming in a king crab having a fit and calling out all of our positions because he couldnt keep up along with us. Why should I gimp my 160kmph+ locust for a 40/50kmph king crab?

Why should I do anything, to keep the most heavily armed and armored mech on my team alive?

If a lance get's caught up in an engagement and the rest of the team brainlessly nascars away from them, then it's a perfectly valid complaint. No idea if that's what happened but it's not about how fast your mech is really. You should always make sure you are not rotating away from pinned down teammates.

Sometimes assaults spawn on the right side of a map and then NASCAR, which puts them in the lead and everybody is behind... Happens on mining collective often enough...

Every time the Assaults go straight ahead from their spawn point on that map, they're dead 3 minutes later.

I try to tell them. Sometimes them listen.

Obviously, they're never going to win the race if they're capping out at a third of your speed.

Clan pilot here. If I'm in my huntsman, ebon jaguar, or kit fox and I'm out of position, it's my own damn fault. So I try to avoid that by intentionally staying close to an Assault mech that appears to be in constant motion, or at least doesn't stop to pause for no reason like you'll see potato pilots do like, a lot.

If I'm in an Assault mech it's one of my basic pack Marauder IIC's and a 375XL is the smallest engine I'll use on one. My speed is excellent but not good enough for me to make poor decisions mid-game. I try to stay in motion and with that mech, being someplace I need to be isn't an issue.

If I had to pilot Inner Sphere mechs and Assault mech especially, I think I'd go with a Battlemaster 7 days a week. I need speed.

Leaving mechs behind should have stopped years ago...

This game is about what team will put more pressure on the other ...

If you decide to stop and stay with a potato static mech which wait someone come pressure him well maybe you are just too naive about how stay with a static guy may help the team ?

#PUGLife.

As a general rule for myself in solo pug games, if it moves slower then 60kmph, its a burden and will probably only do <180 damage every damn game it plays.
Im not sacrificing my '1 hit from an ac20 and Im dead' mech to guard someone over half my speed.
Im more then happy to guard 80+, not ******** slow shitmechs
