No seriously, what's the purpose of those 2 maps in QP pubs if no one wants to play them?

I'm with you on Terra Therma, though. I always vote for it when it's up, even if I'm in a furnace mech.

Terra, however, has been reworked into one of the most intricate and interesting maps this game has. There are so many different paths and ridges-- mediums and lights have plenty of avenues to flank from and disappear into.
There are actually zones on the maps that are a bit colder than the rest and so forcing your enemy to hold up in a hotter zone is a legitimate strategy.

Ages ago, yes. Hasn't been for a while now.
Sadly, map and mode selection appears to be an unchangable game fact at this point, which means most matches are Skirmish (Or whatever mode most easily duplicates skirmish on a particular map) and on HPG, Mining Collective, and Canyon, and when none of those are possible, usually whichever map is coolest. And since Terra and Caustic are among the hottest maps, well... sucks for them.
EDIT: As a new player, try not to be too discouraged by that. Vote mulitpliers mean the other maps will pop eventually, just not often.
Though you'll probably have to play a lot of matches to get into Terra Therma. Caustic, not so much, as while it's hot, it's also visually boring and and has a natural race track, which means it's not too unpopular itself.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away we had 8v8, mode selection, and random maps. Those halcyon days of yore will likely never be seen again.

Still I kinda miss the days of pure random maps and game modes. Just for the nice laser vomit builds. Three or four games on Terra therma in a row would normally result in a change to a catapharact build and then Alpine peaks would come up.

Terra therma on the other hand is a good map, since it basically prevents nascar. its pretty, and engagements frequently happen at enough range that thermal sniper vision is useful.

My only problem with the map voting is that it's always the same set of maps that get voted. If Canyon is available, they choose that. If not than it's frozen city or the other cold map. Followed by Tourmaline and Crimson. Bog, Terra Therma, and Caustic are the redheaded step children.
Wish they would implement a code for how they cycle through maps based on how often it's been played. So that more maps get represented.

That really isn't an accurate assessment of the situation at all. Some people wanted to be able to select their mech after they knew what map they would be on, some people wanted voting, some people wanted all random, and some people wanted hard choices for game modes. PGI in an attempt to give some people what they wanted added soft voting and then removed it a few days later after massive backlash from a lot of people that didn't want to be forced to play certain game modes. Some people then started complaining about wait times which really didn't seem to be a problem for others so PGI said screw it and added voting for game modes and voting for maps as a frustrating bonus/compromise. Ever since a lot of people have been bitching about one aspect or another of voting and the nonsense still remains.

I vote for Terra Therma routinely - I liked the old map, and find the new version very fun and interesting.
I vote against Viridian Bog routinely - I find it both visibly unappealing and generally boring to play.

Well, this player over here never asked for any form of map or game mode voting. <shrugs>

This is something that needs to be emphasized, over and over and over again. <shrugs again>
