I want to buy a founder's package but, I have questions:

My main question is how much do mechs cost, how far will $80 worth of currency in the store get me? Are mechs four dollars each? Ten dollars?
Also, is there not a lifelong premium package I can buy like many competitors have where paying a large amount up front yields a permanent XP/Currency increase?
Lastly, is there is a list of available mechs that I can check out to make sure that my favored chassis are in the game before I commit? It's this or Planetside 2 for me moneywise, and the Planetside beta starts in the next three weeks, and seeing as how I'm in that beta I'd be far more inclined to dump my money on something I know plays well rather than what I hope plays well.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on my questions guys, and I hope to see you out there. I'll be the one screaming something about damn dirty inner sphere.

:cough: I mean, uh. We don't know and we're not likely to know any time soon (I.E. Before founder's program ends). If you have reservations just plunk down $60 for a sweet
I don't think they have plans for a "lifetime premium" account. I could be wrong, and we might see that after the founder's program.

1. I am not aware of any released information on the cost of Mechs, however I do feel that 40-80$ of in game currency will certainly be enough for you to at least get the Mech/Mechs you like best, if they are sold in the micro-transaction store. Perhaps a PGI employee can shed more light on this.
2. At this point, I am also not aware of any lifelong premium packages being sold, however, remember that your Founders mech wil have built-in permanent C-bill boosters that never go away, just like your Mech and founder status will never go away.
3. The confirmed mechs that I know of (per the MWO Wiki) are
Atlas
Awesome

Cataphract

Catapult

Centurion

Cicada

Commando

Dragon

Hunchback

JagerMech

Jenner

Raven

Spider

Stalker

Trebuchet
Many will follow as this game will be an ongoing product, and there are rumors of other mechs, along with rumors of Clan mechs making an showing later down the road!
In closing, I totally understand being torn between this and PS2. I am looking forward to both, and signed up for both betas. We haven't had this much to look foward to in PC gaming for some time! My advice? At least buy the basic founders pack. It will speed beta access, and never go away. My brother is already in the Beta, and without breaking the NDA, I have seen the gameplay first hand, and it looks VERY solid.
Good luck, I'll see you around this and PS2!

Beyond that, we know nothing. We also don't know what 'Mechs or weapons will cost in C-Bills, either.

Cost of upgrading to Ferro-Fibrous armor: 0.00 C-Bills
Cost of upgrading to Endo-Steel structure: +3% of the 'Mech's cost
Cost of upgrading to Double Heat Sinks: +2% of the 'Mech's cost
Cost of upgrading to an XL engine: +100% of the 'Mech's cost
That, in my opinion, is completely out of whack. In a game like this, which relies entirely on grinding money for upgrades, you want armor, structure and heat sinks to cost something more than pocket change, while you don't want XL engines to be completely unaffordable.
I expect them to tune it to something far more intuitive, such as +10% for the normal upgrades at most, and +33% for the XL engine.
EDIT: Not to mention the fact that if they want to make light 'Mechs more deadly and useful, they need to be more expensive than in tabletop while assaults need to come down in price.

I am really impressed with the community, no community is perfect but there are allot of good people here. Anyway, glad to see that we helped you out, and I strongly encourage at least the Veteran founder pack, there is a good chance it will no longer be around after August 7th, and you could always upgrade down the road. At least you will have your foot in the door! Anyway, good luck in deciding, my friend, I will look for you on the field.

Do you think is better choose the mech class you want to improve or go for an alternative that you would just use to have fun and farm money ?
I mean I would like to go for assault but I will surely enjoy playing with medium or light too. Since I'm going to use assault as main I would probably change it (I hate Atlas) at some point, while I would surely keep the hunch as it is... any suggestion or thought ?
Thanks

Other's have answered the mech question, although it should be heavily stressed that it's still very much a work in progress, with more mechs being added to the list even as beta is going on. The last mech announced was the spider less then a week ago.
According to Russ, the 80$ worth of MC should buy you 8-10 medium mechs, slightly more light mechs, and slightly less of the heavier chassis's.
There may or may not be a lifetime premium, we don't know yet as there have been no officially released subscription plans. Think of the founders packs more as a kickstarter, you allocate some money towards the games development, and in exchange for hitting certain tier's, you're given some bonuses.
Should also be noted they've been pretty vehement against the game going P2W, absolutely nothing that can be bought with MC's (outside of cosmetics) can not be bought with the regular IG currency.

Pick something you believe you'll play often when farming for C-bills. Picking the Atlas because you think it's expensive is not a good idea if you will not play it a lot. If you can't stand to play the mech you pick the 25% C-bill bonus will go to waste.
