Just spent around 52million on a Kodiak, modules, "arming session"
The size of the price tag seems to reflect the tonnage... bigger is, well, bigger.
Another reason I love my Shadowcats.
But by the time you have a fair stable of rounded out mechs, if you just run your 2x games, especially on premium time, you earn the c-bills back fairly quick... then blow another 52 million out the missile tubes on something else.
What? Planning a vacation to Solaris with all the money you saved?
Premium time is rather nice which I'm finding out after the holiday event and having premium time throughout it. Doesn't seem like I make hardly anything now...

Almost back to 500 million now. Probably would be if I played more than occasionally...

First rule of becoming rich in MWO: NEVER SELL ANYTHING, BUT ESPECIALLY 'MECHS AND ENGINES.
I've played with a lot of people who I thought played as much as I do, an were at least comparable in most of their matches, so "should" have had comparable amounts cash, that surprisingly were constantly broke.
What they do differently from me is, that they're constantly selling their 'mechs and engines and equipment.
Early on I was the same way, selling stuff and constantly broke, until I realized: I only get half of what I paid for anything when I sell it back. If I sell a ERPPC/fusion engine/etc. and I later on down the line need another, I have to pay TWICE what I sold it for to get it back.
So I stopped, and horde pretty much everything (though once I hit 20 of an item, I'll usually sell it down, I mean, c'mon, who needs TWENTY ML's, SL's, etc.).
Once I did that my 'mech modification costs dropped DRAMATICALLY. From an ~10million average per, down to ~1 million average per.
Second Rule: DO NOT MODIFY YOUR 'MECHS AFTER EVERY DAMN MATCH! You made a build, played it one match and did poorly. That does not mean the build was bad, it more than probably means you haven't learned to play it as well as you could.
I play with people who STILL TO THIS DAY, after 4 or 5 years of MWO will ABSOLUTELY tweak their 'mech after EVERY damned match.
Third Rule: Pay attention to Premium time. It adds up.
Fourth Rule Rule: Play... a LOT.
I used to play a LOT more than I do now, so income generation was pretty consistent.

Okay I've begun following rule 2 and rule 4 already, so the rest shouldn't be so hard.
Though premium time is gonna be difficult to get.
Thank you man.

I know of someone over 3 billion (waiting for him to post here himself rather than me giving it away). I used to try to keep up, but I've fallen behind since I no longer use premium time... I also got a job (kidding!).

As someone already pointed out, formerly I used premium time, all the time. I would also double-dip by using Hero mechs. My last job was mostly "on call", so I would have a lot of time on my hands just sort of sitting around, unable to go out, unable to do much of anything except watch TV or play video games until such time that the phone rang (why I some-times had to bail mid-match).
Aside from that, have fun!

There was a point quite recently when after buying some gear I had exactly 3 c-bills. That gave me a chuckle.

I think that helps save money, for certain. I bought probably all of the clan variants I own in a 35% sale, and most of the IS meds/heavies too.
