Im gonna get the standard pack of the 3 Kodiak mechs. I was wondering if getting the Spirit Bear add on for the Hero was worth the extra 15 $$$
If not what would be the best Hero clan mech?

Kodiak super deformed model kit? Yes pls lemme know where to get one too!
Jokes aside, it is a clan version of the atlas. Faster but less durable. It is a pretty solid mech overall and I would recommend getting one if you have expendable cash.

Depends on what you value. Personally I love the camo spec, and having a MASC powered behemoth charging at you with an Atlas-esque loadout is really, really fun.

That being said, it's not a tank like the Atlas. You're maneuverable in the SB, and can surprise gank well if you're patient, but don't expect to just shrug off shots as readily barrelling at someone over open ground (unless for the lolz and making some newer folks panic). Worth keeping in mind; I ran into quite a few players that expected it to be crazy survivable being a 100-tonner, only to complain how readily it goes down. It's more like playing a relatively short ranged Executioner (unless doing a rather whacky build) than a loadout comparable Atlas. Well worth keeping mind.

Honestly, Hero-wise I've preferred my Scorch; no regrets on the SB at all, still love it, but Scorch tickles my fancy more in its loadouts, personal preference there. Faster overall mobility (without masc turns, decell, accell though), some really punch loadouts (even if the basic variants have some better show stealers). I'd be tempted to say it's a better choice, but only by a small preference margin, but take that with a grain of salt; I've no clue what your playstyle and mech ticklish spots are.

I'm not sure the Hero Omnis would be your thing as an alternative; most of them just have a single pod that's considered worthwhile without bringing something drastically different (though the Summoner hero does help some builds if you're lacking the Loyalty Variants, non-torso mounted ballistic builds for the Timber, extra AC 2 etc. Dakka on The Dire, torso energy for the Kit Fox and so on), so they may not be quite the value you want unless you want another variant to fill out a roster.

The Huntsman Hero is often cannibalized for torso srm pods to mix with others to go full on missile barrage like few other mediums. The Jade Kite gives you some asymetrical options for UAC 5s and extra Torso missiles, and a different trivial quirk set. Linebacker some extra torso energy. Medusa more energy in the arms to cram in or potentially another missile mount. It's your call if you find those value for your money given what they do; most of them do help making optimized builds for their chassis, but the SB and Scorch with their hardpoints (or just the MASC) tend to stand out more for gameplay differences compared to their brethren imho. I'm more of a fan of fun Heroes vs "part lockers to build fully optimized builds".

As a pilot who fights Clan hero mechs, the Scorch is dangerous as hell. Easily one of the best mechs in the game.

Best value might be one of the lighter Clan standalone mechs though, I mainly run the KDK-3 so the other two from the standard pack are mostly wasted. The SB necessitates a $35 buy in.

A C-bill boosted Stormcrow or Timberwolf would see a lot of use.

Remember the three mech mastery requirement is going away soon. That lessons the need for packs.

If you're not opposed to spending real money, I think the Spirit Bear is a great mech. It's pretty much a brawler though, so depending on your preferred playstyle that may or may not be your thing.

I don't own one, but the Scorch is a great mech too. Just look at the hard points. It's actually hard to make a bad build on that thing.

I can also personally vouch for the Ultraviolet. That thing can really bring the hurt (only mech that can boat 8 ballistics as far as I know).

Jade Kite is another good option.

The Spirit Bear is in my opinion the best Kodiak, I love having effectively an Atlas 7S capable of 90kph in short bursts, however it is an assualt Mech and thus vastly inferior to other weight classes in my hands.

My preferance lean towards mobility and close quaters combat which explains why the Spirit Bear I'd by far the best Kodiak for me.

In order of preferance here are my top 5 Hero Mechs

Black Widow, Warhammer
Ember, Firestarter
Medusa, Viper (with the ballistic hardpoints from another varient for quad MGs)
Firebrand, Jagermech Hero
Yen Lo Wang, Centurian

I am certainly not suggesting they will work well for everyone, but they are my favorate and most sucessful Heroes

There are non hero "special varients" from the older multi Mech packs which get more playtime than 2 of my top 5 heroes, Black Widow is my absolute favorate Mech but the (I) varients of Timber Wolf, Stormcrow, Helbringer, Mad Dog, Shadow Cat and Arctic cheeter, as well as the ® varients of Crab, Enforcer, Black Knight, the (P) varient of the Battlemaster abd the (F) varient of Jenner and Hunchback get at least as much play as Yen Lo and Firebrand

Ya I know about the 3 mech rule but I do want to get the kodiak 3 and a hero mech for the c bills.

Is there any way to get just the kodiak 3 and the Scorch separate? hope by not buying MC. Just the kodiak3 would be 30.00. It would be better to just get the mastery pack

I was looking for the Scorch, Not sure if you can still get the Scorch . If so can any one link me to it?

Spirit Bear ONLY if you love brawling. Otherwise: Scorch.

Spirit Bear has only one build - SRM brawling.

Scorch has about 5 decent builds. 2LBX20+SRMs, 2UAC10+LPL, 2Gauss+2ERPPC, 2Gauss+2LPL, 2MG+2Flamer+4LRM10(i kid...i kid)
