Wolfhound to me is a mech that would function as a mid range front-line supporter that can remain alive for the entirety of the firefight while contributing armor. It's like an Innersphere equivalent of the Adder. With that said, I design something closer to it's "real fictional" role in the lore rather than a "good" build based on current game-play mechanics.
It feels more meaningful, even if it's under-powered in some way comparing to all these XL builds.

Twin large laser to represent the steady work horse spirit of the Innersphere.
Zombie-esqure standard engine with an entire shield arm designed to withstand punishment from other lights while functioning as a quick mobile gun turret. And with 4 fast firing small lasers (-10% duration quirk), it can function as an urban suppressor by itself or use its zombie-esque sturdiness to stand beside bigger mechs and share punishment.
After all, a hound is a dog used in Europe as a hunting dog in the forests, not open plains. The Wolfhound certainly inherent that spirit by being tenacious in urban settings and extremely dependable.

3 Small Lasers and 2 Med Pulse provide a peak 21 pt alpha and a sustained 3.17 DPS. 225 standard engine makes it faster than standard wolfhounds and since lights don't have the armor capacity to survive lots of fire, especially to their side torsos... a lighter XL would mean new players would be dying too quickly and not enjoying the game. The MPL are CT mounted so the mech can be a hungry zombie even after losing both side torsos. Double AMS installation with 3 tons of ammo gives this mech added usefulness for a new player, whether the AMS helps it close to brawling range with LRM boats or to shield team mates. A total of 12 DHS improves the cooling efficiency, and there's already Endo/FF. Also there's just enough rear torso armor to survive an inner sphere medium pulse laser or a clan small pulse laser.

This mech can pack a punch and it can go almost 150 kph with speed tweak and overall is a really great mech. I have had some of my best matches with it.

This mech goes 156.7 kph with speed tweak and is more of a scouting mech than a brawler.
