So-called "new tech" is probably just a euphemism for "IS Tech is exactly like Clan Tech differing only in shape, color, and sound effects". Or in other words, they will be just "skins".

How else is their stated goal of "Mech A = Mech B" across all classes, variants, tech, and roles going to happen?

1. And what if it actually turns out to be IS Tech 2, and even Clan/IS Tech 3? What will you do if this turns out to be true?

2. I think we all know this isn't going to happen without completely turning the game on its head. With the games reliance on damage and kills above all else, Assault and Heavy mechs are going to remain the undisputed kings of the battlefield.

For lights to have a role other than simply being a harassing itch that needs to be scratched by a larger mech, you would need maps that are easily 5 times bigger than we have now, with actual objectives that they and only they would be able to reach faster than other mechs.

And we all know that sort of thing is probably never going to happen, so lights will continue to languish at the bottom of the barrel.

I get that you really like missiles but I don't see how this would add to the game without the maps being a lot bigger or diverse.

Well on some maps it would probably work pretty well. Alpine, some of the CW/FW maps where the defenders have a nice little pocket to sit in.

I forget the name of the CW/FW map it is, but it's the map with all the pink trees where the attackers spawn on that raised plateau.

Have the Arrow IV artillery mechs stay up on that plateau, while the other mechs go and grab targets and let the rain of death commence.

I have a feeling that stuff like Rifles will get ignored, but hopefully the IS will get its full LBX and UAC line as part of the "new tech".

Which is a shame, as rifles tweaked to reflect MWO's double-armor rules actually become viable ballistic weapons for lighter machines.

We're still missing huge gaps in the weapon systems "in-timeline". Moving to 3060+ pretty much guarantees we'll see as much restatted current weapons as possible and an increasingly large number of butchered weapon systems like the Clan ATM launchers.

As it stands, you could make most people drop a brick in their shiny metal pants just by strapping some RL20's on a Locust and applying them to the nearest enemy back armor. All without advancing a year (though RLs and rifles were "retrotech" and show up re-introduced in the Inner Sphere a bit later, they're alive and well in the primitive Periphery now.)

Well, since for the IS, full lines of LBX and UACs ARE newer tech...

I know that 'Mech mounted arty won't be implemented nor good but I just like the feel/look of it.

Most "artillery" for Mechs is actually cut-down "cannons" other than the Arrow IV (which is low on damage and range compared to real arty, but far more portable), but even that would mean guns that can fire over cover and deal splash damage in small amounts.

But I'd love a Naga, even if I had to scrap one A-IV to have enough ammo for MWO play. There's variants with normal missile/energy hardpoints to back it up, too. The IS would even get a new Catapult variant if it went in.
