will it need 3 mechs just the one we have now to master it? I hope that changes but I don't blame PGI if that is part of their business model

No but it'll take the same amount of time to master a mech. But if you want to respec a mexh you'll either have to.pay MC most likely to keep the ex or revert back to square one. You'll still need more than one mech for different play styles etc.

in Februar the new Skill system, and you must not have more 3 Variants of a Mech to master...all mechs mastered single and individual ...

needing more than one mech is not always applicable to clanners because they can just swap pods and one CT can do any play style

I do believe this is no longer true. They said they changed their mind and you will not lose XP when switching specs with Cbills.
I heard this from multiple sources.
