How secure is this game for one's computer?

How much hacking is possible through it. I am not a bad player, but when I keep getting disconnected, and other stuff, it feels like there is something wrong, very wrong....same people always and keep getting disconnected when facing them.

Are you suggesting that the game is so compromised that hackers can actually disconnect you from the server?

Oh boy.

Anyway, no. No one's booting you.

Like Bombast said, no, this game is secure enough to not allow so. The Game is server-based, meaning that any modification to the client directly would be detected via client side. Even then, this is a first I've ever heard of such a thing. Could be your GPU or CPU, maybe when it attempts to render the mech, or action that the player takes (Such as firing a weapon), something causes the game to crash...? It could be your connection as well.

Per Example, If I modified my Client to make AC/20s with more range, I would stick out like a sore thumb to those monitoring the matches; and, quite frankly, they can jump into any match within a minute and spectate you, and then afterwards, receive a prompt warning and/or possibly temporary or even a perma ban. Same goes for you saying people disconnect when you face them, it would be very easy to see.

PGI's server failures will cause you more grief than that of any potential hackers.

I have never even heard of this particular type of hacking ever occurring through a modern online game. You're safe, man. Nobody is going to get to be able to edit your registry or infect you with viruses or anything of the sort.

Apparently, now that the US election is done and dusted, I hear there are some red spooks looking for their next job. Hmm...

AFAIK the #1 cause of disconnects are spotty WIFI connections.

This is actually done in other games, It's just not common anymore these days due to how most are managed. No OP you won't see this sort of shady **** happen in MWO. I'd recommend monitoring your PC's performance, settings / etc: or reinstall the game from a clean uninstall if the client repair didn't work.

If you have steam simply delete it in the steam app, and re download. You may wish to restart in between just to be sure the PC's cleaned things up nicely.

Best of luck.

Remember that PGI's severs are always between your computer and any one else's. No direct file transfer happens between player 1 and player 2. I suppose if someone at PGI went bad and put malware on the server it would upload with the next patch - but I have yet to hear about any game company doing that.

The above replies seem to have provided adequate answer to the original post.

If needed, PGI technical support may be reached at technical@mwomercs.com
