Basically comes down to SRMs you can fire and forget, then turn away to spread returning damage. MRMs you have to keep aimed at the target through the full launch.

MRMs trade off a little extra heat and a little less damage per ton for the extra range. The way they fire in a 'stream' also makes it a bit harder to land all the missiles on your target.
I've found about half my mechs with SRMs are improved with MRMs. Still running SRMs on my faster, smaller mechs though.

Stream fire as has been said. They also have a universal spread value and are just a bit tighter than bare SRM6.
Major advantage over SRMs is that you can do much more damage in a single volley.

Marauder-5D with MRM's. Shave off 0,5-1 ton of armor if you want more ammo.

It takes advantage of all your missle hardpoints, has lower cooldown, lower spread, and a higher alpha (with fire groups divided between left and right side). Its also more heat efficient and won't run out of ammo if you select the ammo nodes. It is simpler to operate and requires less weapons tree investment.
