Fp: Game Mode Order~

Just a random suggestion on the Faction Play game mode order. Was randomly thinking about it while driving home from work. Feedback is greatly appreciated~ And sorry in advance if anyone has put my exact thoughts up somewhere else. :|

I think it would be more realistic if the order went like this:
1st phase: Destroy/Defend Orbital Cannon = Because I think it is the 1st thing you'd wanna do when you invade a planet.

2nd phase: Counter Attack = Defenders would want to try and retake said cannons.

3rd phase: Assault = Once invaders have secured cannons, the next step is to take out or take over the key Bases of the defenders.

4th phase: Domination = Almost the same as Assault in a sense, Invaders would want to take and control key locations on the planet.

5th phase: Skirmish = Invaders destroy any pockets of resistance that remains on the planet.

So I know that eliminates Conquest from FP, but personally I don't mind. But it could be squeezed in somewhere there, so it would make the bar go 6 phases instead of 5.

switch dom to before assault and justify it as clearing room for a new base, and throw in conquest after dom and before assault and justify it as making supply runs for the materials to build and stock the new base you set up off screen after domination.

that leaves you with all modes in there. id also advocate for throwing in escort right before skirmish as it would simulate the generals and noblemen redirecting the military to assist them with getting of planet, which is an occurrence that has happened many times in battletech lore. off the top of my head Id name Katrina steiner (evil one) as one prson who tried that, not in an atlas but still, and fisk in the archer cristifori novels. it would be hilarious if you replaced the norma order giver voice at the start of the match with some high pithced voice from a noble making stupid demands and what not throughout the game.... id laugh, idk about everyone else though.

I think the goal of the current selection of modes was actually to eliminate counter-attack as a game mode.

Your logic is kinda the way FP was back when it was still zone based. Counter-attack is basically skirmish on a map with really bad choke points, so it can become kinda silly sometimes.

Invasion first would be quite interesting though. I'd vote for that, then they could put the new game mode at the end.

EDIT: this is the order I would have done it.

INVASION: Attackers hit the enemy base hard, attacking side flips depending on slider. Slider with advantage is attacking.
ESCORT: Same attacker defender thing. Defenders are trying to evacuate key personell, attackers are trying to stop them.
CONQUEST: A fight over key resource points/comms nodes
Old Assault: A push for key positions
*PGI's new game mode INCURSION*: Securing the military garrisons and watch stations on the planet.

Yes I took domination out, I've fond it to be very un-fun in FW. Usually only get 2-3 drops before the game is over.

I dont mind this idea at all, brings some more immersion, if you have an imagination.

The current order makes more sense to me:

Skirmish: landing forces are gaining a beachhead on the planet.

Domination: forces are fighting over key communications installations

Conquest: forces are attempting to secure planetary resources (kind of like when US forces secured oil fields in the invasion of Iraq)

Assault: forces are now attempting to take outlying bases.

Invasion: forces are now completing the planetary conquest by assaulting the planetary fortresses.

Fair enough. Though I would not know how Escort could fit in a 4 drop match. Maybe have 4 VIPs spawn in succession, the next spawning only when the previous has died/gotten away. And the mechanic would be that the attackers win if all 4 die, then defenders would win if at least 1 live? Not sure... O.O

I was just thinking for more immersion sake really. I wanted more appearance of the FP maps and I thought putting Counter-Attack in 2nd phase would make more sense immersion-wise. As for Between Domination and Conquest, your reason sounds more valid to keep Conquest than Domination now that I think about it. After all, Domination just seems like a more 1 point focused version of Assault in a sense o.o
