Of course there were other factors. People lording exclusive items over everyone else for instance.

Have you seen my gold mechs? How about my Phoenix patterns?

Seriously though it will be interesting to see the balance in cost between mech bays and respecs. Also there is no role warfare so I have no idea what the OP is talking about in that regard. Unless things change the reason to respec will not be for a new role but to damage and kill things faster.

With all the CBills from module refunds, and all the XP from mechs I never use any more, I really don't think there will ever be any grind any more.

My suggestion - get "Respec Vouchers x1/x3/x5" added to Supply Crates. Each is good for reset of one skill selection (or whatever they come up with).

That way people still have a way to respec for free (or token amounts of MC to open the crate).

A lot of it depends on how much they set this at. MWO has been around a long time - some people are sitting on hundreds of millions of CBills and hundreds of thousands of XP per mech...

I have not spent a cent on this game in the 3 years or so I've been playing it! I now have 7 fully mastered clan mechs that I can configure in pretty much any wait I want in order to suit the play style I'm favoring at any given time.

That gives me 0 right to gripe about what PGI is doing. I just enjoy whats there ...for free. And overall they have provided a game that gives me my BT/MW fix.

The tragedy is, though, that as a lifelong Battletech fan i would be willing to dish out bucket loads of money if PGI just stopped puting all their efforts in coming out with new pointless mechs (do they really play that differently? Does it make the game more fun to run in a Javelin suddenly?), or into decals or loot boxes that give nothing of value.

Give me new gameplay mechanics.

Give me balancing that is not relying on arbitrary buffing and debuffing (Hello Clan tech is supposed to be superior to Innersphere so why does the match maker assigns the same value to a Marauder than to a timber wolf?). Why not let the matchmaker evaluate the value of a mech based on how often it is played by the community? Suddenly that timber wolf is a lot less valuable if you can get two Gargoyles on your team for the same "price".

Give me a meaningfull impact of heat. TT had a scale of debuffs as your heat went up (your aim got worst, your mech slowed down, ammo might cook off). That would be something great to implement instead of this binary system ( everything's fine until you shut down or die !).

Give me a radar that feels more real. Make it harder to target cool mechs and vice versa. How much more interesting could you make ECM that way instead of the "now you see me now you don't" ECM that we have right now.

In short give me more strategic depth and I will gladly pay a monthly subscription fee or any other payment structure that you want to come up with.

Instead we will get this fun but ultimately mediocre game until people stop buying new mechs ('cause really how many do you need?), PGI's cash-flow dries up and the servers are shutdown.

I just can't believe that a team that can make a game like this can't see that that's what they're headed for. This is just not sustainable.

... and I will keep playing for free. Yes I am a freeloader, but i have given you the recipe to take all my money and make an Epic game.

Its just sad really how much opportunity is being missed.

2) The announcement that the new skill system will involve substantial work to grind up.

Wasn't the announcement that the needed time will be roughly the same and that nothing is final yet?
So you base your decision on assumptions and spite.

3) The announcement that respecs will cost EC and MC.

What's "EC"?
Wasn't there an announcement about CBs as well?
Anyway/again: Nothing final.
At this point, I would assume that MC will work the usual way: If you want something free quicker, you pay MCs. Which is perfectly fair.

These 3 points gave enough impression of your thought processes that I don't need to read the rest of your text.

I quit paying when I realized that I don't need to buy mechs every month or few months. It's been literally years since the last light is mech and not counting the just open jav mech I haven't bought that as well. When I have six or seven mechs that can do practically any combination of weapons I like to use there is no point in spending real cash on another mech.

Given how pgi nerfs and buffs quirks on a whim and will probably "readjust" the coming skill tree the same whenever they see fit I plan to just use a set few mechs out of the 88 I have now. I don't care for the colors or stickers but lots of other do. The last mech that I had high interest in and paid for was the clan jenner 2cs. Out of the is and clan jenner I prefer the is because of the quirks making it run faster.

This is actually really apropos to the OP. Imagine the squirks system as proposed. So you spend all that time and effort leveling a mech to a specific performance characteristic...say to be an agile, ERPPC jump sniper...on one of those under-performing mechs that Russ has said will still have quirks or underlying "base values"...maybe a Vindicator.

Now imagine that PGI as is their habit, throws some darts and now decides to take away the underlying PPC values and give it extra performance somewhere else. What are you going to do? I think a lot of folks, out of fear of losing the nodes will spend the MC to reconfigure. And then PGI does it again. And again.

I hope folks have a lot of MC built up, or are just willing to grind out new mechs every time PGI decides on another round of quirk/base value adjustments; because with a new squrks tree introduced at the same time as all mechs having new quirks/base values, I expect multiple nerf/buff passes both for the mechs and the quirks tree over the months if not years after this is introduced.

Gonna get real ugly if they make folks pay real money -repeatedly- to fix their inability to balance such a system.

In regards to SkillTree, and "grinding 'Mechs" :

What you call "Grind", I call "playing the Game" .

Sure, on the face of it.

Currently the grind in this game is very small, which is one of the reasons I like it. And with the elimination of the need to grind up three mechs when all you want is one of them, this is potentially looking to get better. But with the numbers they implied in their announcement you'll now have to grind that same amount of experience per mech, making it three times as much to complete the pack. This is all subject to change I know, but one point I'm making is that time cost is something they should keep low.

But "grinding" is only a minor problem. My big concern is when we start to have to pay for it because of URT.

Too bad you couldn't understand that it was the three things in combination, and how they work together that is the basis of the argument... perhaps a course in logic? Lol, though I confess to having my head in a different game for a moment. By EC I meant C-bills. Original post edited and corrected.

Seriously though, these were preparatory statements... the thought processes are the part that follows, that you couldn't be bothered to read before commenting.

After the thinking behind the kdk nerfs. The thinking behind the uac/ac nerfs. The failure to still fix assault or whatever the fail it's called. The failure to stop every game mode being a killing frenzy with no brains involved. The failure based around escort (which was looking promising). I am out.

I've fully upgraded my pc so I can now play every single game on the market and I intend to do so. I think this is my last year in MWO so I'll burn out all my PT and move on.

I'll treat MW5 separately but I have a very good feeling on how that'll go. I'll keep an open mind in thinking it's a Single playthrough game so no/little fiddling involved.

But overall the weird decisions and turns this game ends up taking in order to behave more like other crappy milky milky games is driving me nuts. Seriously, stop giving me stupid reward crates. I really can't wait to have a spec tree to waste all my time behind only to find out the build doesn't work or needed fine tuning so I'll have to waste more resources and time to correct them.

Guh.

Other games do this sort of thing because people complain that there isn't enough to do in the end game. The Irony is that MWO is all end game, and the pure PVP here is a great end game. Or it would be if they moved everyone responsible for making new rules onto other projects. The ever changing rules is what keeps me from collecting mechs now.

I've come to believe that the weird decisions, like this weekends nerfs, are motivated only by a desire to get people to change builds and pay the attendant costs. Russ should go to Star Trek Online and sit in the queues for a day never able to get in a game, if he wants to see where this behaviour leads.
