Tier Decay

I havent played in a long while for one reason or another and was thinking about the spanking Im going to get when I return due to being severely out of practice.
Dieing wont bother me but my lack of contribution will.
I made it to Tier 2 via the inevitable xp bar rise and not because Im good. In fact I would say Im mediocre at best.
What do people think about an over time Tier decay mechanism to place long time absent players in a Tier better suited to their deminished skills?

If you were playing at a T2 level before, you will still be playing at a T2 level now. Sure you need to probably adjust some builds learn the maps that have been updated since whenever you left, but that won't take that long or require much effort. You will be fine after a few matches. Its like riding a bike, and all that.
I've only played for two years (on this account...but hardly at all previously). In those two years I don't see that game play has changed that much. What I learned a year ago in terms of how to play applies equally now. I think you will have very similar results playing now that you had previously.

Bad idea, so a player thats very good and plays not often will get a lower tier and then can stomp newbies and lowies? That seems to be a gap your idea doesn't consider and so the idea is bad because exactly these kind of holes are an issue why many mechanics don't work.

No need for tier decay. Just need better PSR punishment for losses. Those who were absent for a long time already have skill decay, so as long as the PSR doesn't have upwards bias, absent players would drop lower once they play again.

I was gone from the game for about 10 months after PSR was introduced.
It would suck if I had to start over from tier 4, everytime I take a break from the game.
Maybe an option to demote PSR ranks would work better?
There are already people like snugglestime who deliberately lose games to reduce their PSR rank.
It wouldn't change the gameplay, only save people time and energy?

Get rid of public and player visible tiers and stats - it causes people to fixate on them. Haven't you noticed how much more "vanilla" and boring the game got once people could see it? Sure, give a + or - or = at the end of a drop, but don't let players see the # for QP matches. Do competitive "seasons" and gather stats for those comp "seasons", but make it opt-in. A random player just starting is under a lot of pressure anyways - if they have a visual indicator that they're in the bottom end of the bellcurve it can eat at them and prevent them from having fun. I don't care if people see mine, I don't care - I play the game to have fun and laugh and blow off steam (heck, I play with a joystick, steering wheel, and wacom tablet at times!), but I hear a LOT of yelling and screaming in VOIP these days from people concerned their stats are going to go down because of "their stupid team". Who cares? It's a game!

careful with the forum call out - I believe listing someone's name is against the TOS

When I did this, stopped worrying about how many kills I was getting and damage and started trying to help the team as best I could; I noticed an instant increase in wins and my PSR started to raise much quicker.
