PGI promised they would buff the mechs that got hurt by the rescale.

They've ignored nearly all of the upscaled mechs, and the few ones they did touch didn't get buffed enough to matter.

And they are soon nerfing one that was increased in size.

They are gathering data.

In 2018, the Firestarter may get +5 structure points.

Because nobody has forgotten the awesome game breaking combo from mw2 of flamers and machine guns in a jump jetting mech lol.

The Firestarter had its time. How about focusing on mechs that have never had their day like the Vindicator?

Vindis are fairly decent nowadays, probably better then firestarters.

The Light class as a whole is severely underpowered thanks to the re-scale and de-quirkenening double-whammy. If you're not playing a Locust, an Arctic Cheetah, an Oxide or the Jenner IIC missile variant you're running at a severe disadvantage, and if you're playing something like a Firestarter, which didn't even get compensatory armor and agility quirks like similarly-rescaled Panthers and Wolfhounds, you're either dumb, masochistic or both. Short of just reverting to its pre-rescale size and hitbox (which, given power creep and the de-quirkening the FS9s suffered, actually probably wouldn't be enough on its own), here's some thoughts on how I might quirk them to make them viable again:

All FS9 variants:
+15 Armor: Right ST, Left ST, CT
+6 Armor: Right Arm, Left Arm
+15% Flamer Range

FS9-E (4E, 2B, 1AMS):
+20% Acceleration Rate
+20% Deceleration Rate
+20% Turn Rate
+10 Torso Pitch Angle
+10 Torso Yaw Angle
-10% Laser Duration
+10% Energy Weapon Cooldown
+25% Machine Gun ROF

FS9-A (8E, 1AMS):
+10% Acceleration Rate
+10% Deceleration Rate
+10% Turn Rate
+15% Energy Range
-10% Energy Heat Generation

FS9-H (6E, 2B, 1AMS):
+10% Acceleration Rate
+10% Deceleration Rate
+10% Turn Rate
-10% Energy Weapon Heat Generation
-10% Medium Pulse Laser Heat Generation

FS9-K (8E, 1AMS, Extra JJ):
+35% Acceleration Rate
+35% Deceleration Rate
+25% Turn Rate
+15 Torso Pitch Angle
+15 Torso Yaw Angle
-5% Energy Weapon Heat Generation

FS9-S (7E, 2AMS)
+10% Acceleration Rate
+10% Deceleration Rate
+10% Turn Rate
-10% Energy Heat Generation
-10% Medium Laser Heat Generation

Wow, really. But I guess you must know more than meta mechs who say different.

Not even the Jenner IIC prime, not worth picking up since most heavies and assaults twist as fast a medium, and be very lucky if even get a back shot before they turn around and hit your already easy to hit CT from every direction.

Firestarter is probably still better then my spider and I still play my spider mech to success.

Not saying they are amazing, but they have enough weapons to be deadly in the right hands. Posted Image

The problem is that PGI is holding to a former meta that stopped happening since the rescaling.

The Firestarter was a decent alternative to the Arctic Cheetah (as long as far as the IS is concerned), but since the rescaling... PGI seems to think they are on par... which is the most broken lack of understanding that's going on relative to balance.

In summation, PGI... like potatoes in these forums... are onto metas that stopped happening many moons ago.

Because the FS9 already had it's day in the sun. No need to make it OP (for a light) again... until they decide they need to sell some more embers.

The buff is coming, guys. The Fire Javelin! 7 SPLas on a 30-ton mech neatly sidesteps those pesky rescale issues. :P
