I've been away from the game for quite some time and just found out that MW5 uses the Unreal Engine as opposed to MWO using the Cry Engine.
And from the footage I've seen so far MW5 looks way better than MWO. So, my question is wether we will get an engine update for MWO? I think Russ has mentioned something about that in the past. What is the up-to-date status?

There hasn't been any official word. I imagine they will eventually port MWO to Unreal so it and MW5 can share more assets but that may take two years.

As LostDragon said, no official word.

It's not likely to happen while Piranha is building MW5. After MW5 releasea and that team is able to spend more time on other projects, Piranha may have them work on an Unreal version of MWO. Before then, would not give high odds of an Unreal port of MWO, which would essentially be building a third completely separate game, while they're working on MW5.

I assume a port to Unreal also because MW 5. But its not for sure. Battletech games are using 3 different engines at the moment... Maybe a smart move for really mastering the engine scene who knows.

It's unlikely to happen until AFTER MW5 is completed. Even then, you shouldn't even expect it anytime soon™.

Upgrading the existing CryEngine would already be problematic (as evidenced in beta).
