I just started a game and one thing was left out in the games is how to use the artillery strike, airstrike or a UAV. It is a consumable loaded in either the module 1 or module 2. I don't see anything on how to deploy it. How do you select where they will go. is there a grace period for Artillery and air strikes so you can get out of the way, how much damage they do, the works.

You need to map keys for the module slots 1 and 2. Default keys are... 1 and 2 i guess. Arty and Air Strike target the spot your reticule is aimed when you press the module slot key. UAV pop straight up, so don't launch under a bridge =)
Edit: I don't really remember the default keys. you can find them in Keyboard configuration options.

You can also map them directly (assign a key to "cool shot.") I do that because I don't like having to think about slot order when loading or using. I know what key to press for cool shot, UAV or strike.

I believe the default keys are insert and home. Mine are still mapped that way; I just always have my UAV as home, and either my cool shot or air strike as insert, so I don't tend to confuse them...though I have occasionally popped an air strike thinking it was a cool shot...Oops.

That's why I use direct maps. I have mechs with every combo. I also have a macro that puts both strikes on one button (though it's sort of silly since I only use air strikes now).

To further explain some things covered the arty and air strike are deployed where the circle (arm mounts) part of the crosshair hits the terrain. If you have arm lock off you can reach different spots. Air strike fires in a straight line the direction of your torso and not your legs. Arty hits an area around the center of the smoke column. Only one arty or air strike can be fired at a time per team and there is a short cooldown period between strikes. You can see the module icon turn yellow when it is offline and start turning clear.
UAV go straight up over you and they cannot be deployed if you are under something. You'll hear a buzzing noise letting you know it didn't work. This happens a lot on HPG when you think you're out from under the ceiling of the top level.
The damage is explained in the details of the module. Hover over it to see what the deal is. Since there are upgrade and what not I won't go into that, just see which one you've unlocked and bought. There is a "grace period" to get out of the way. I honestly have no idea how long, but if you see that smoke you'd best start moving. Since you can't tell if it is arty or air until it is too late (you can actually see the plane coming in) imo it is best to move perpendicular to the enemy you think fired it so as to best avoid air strike damage since it hits in a narrow line.
That's about it. Good luck!
