It takes twelve to tango. Really. I did a math.

Support? No offense, but that's what they (WE) all say when we don't wanna have to tank damage. Like in the Army, one volunteers quick for the easy work detail, in order to not get voluntold to do the hard stuff. And yeah, brawling is tough. It requires more/better concentration than does sniping.

To the point, though, you actually CAN be a badass as a 'supporting' role. No, really. Why y'all laughin'? It's called armor sharing. At some point, you've got to go take a couple shots on the chin. Why?

Your teammates can use that breathing room to cool down, reposition, and take back the initiative. Longer it takes to kill any one of them, the more firepower blue team has to REK EFFIN RED FACE.

So yeah. Twelve to tango.

Welcome to the 31st Century, cowboy!

A lot depends on what one means by "support," though, which is why I'm using the quotation marks.

Rabbi's quite right, however; the most common and egregious failure you see with people using sniper, LRM, and even dakka builds is when they assume that getting shot at is someone else's job - and are subsequently hunted down as the last jerk to die in a fresh assault 'mech.

Can't stress this enough.
There are so many players out there who are scared of taking some hits for the team. The best of them are LRM boats waiting for the team to get them locks and brawlers which run from a small laser.

To some degree I can understand that fear. What if you push and your team just keeps sitting behind cover, or even runs away, instead of using the chance to shoot any exposing mech.
You just end up dying fast without much impact, and then you have to watch how your team dissolves, one after another, while hiding behind rocks.

HELP YOUR TEAMMATES!
USE YOUR ARMOR!
PLAY AS TEAM!

WOW!
I would like to thank all of you for responding to this post. The information that has been shared here is invaluable!
After reading all the replies and getting advice from a well respected player, I've dropped the 2 assaults (I was just a do nothing meat shield anyway), and opted for the medium Stormcrow SCR-PRIME build. So far so good! I won more that I lost last night, for the short time I played. Even had a 6 assist win.

Now I can tango with the other 11!

Shout out to all of you!

Happy Hunting,

HEAVEYGEAR
