To me it seems ssrms are suppose to be flat out better than srms (correct me if I,m wrong) so why not have them track to the most damaged part of the target mech to make them useful vs not lights?
This in theory is easily countered by torso twisting away the damaged component and having a more fresh part of the mech eat the damage instead and because there missiles some may miss due to spread so if done right this should not be overpowered.
I'm about to get screamed at by every light pilot ever aren't I?

- Right now they pretty effective weapon even with torso twisting if you skilled enough to chainfire ssrm (that make them hit different part of mech) and count right phases of torso twist of enemy (catch right moment when to fire). So - there no need to change. You can easy kill any heavy mech with damaged parts if you play long enough with such weapon. Also - another play style is, use them as third group weapon. On many IS mech 2-3 ssrm2 can take down target making it shake when you fire from main weapon. Learn strong sides of weapon and use it.

IN BT the advantage of streaks is they do not fire unless they achieve a lock. Locks are tracked for individual missiles, this is great for ammo conservation. Unfortunately this has somehow translated to only SSRMs having the ability to lock.
For MWO a more accurate portrayal would be:
SRMs take x seconds to lock on (all tubes are locked simultaneously), if you fire early they are dumb-fired.
Streaks lock 1 missile every y seconds until all tubes are locked on target (where sum(y)=x for launcher size), firing early only fires the missiles which are locked on.
Unfortunately the time for any such change has long passed.

- But SRM have no lock... They just fly on straight line and blows after reach maximum range. In all MW games they work like that and used for killing slow huge targets.
- Streaks mechanic looks interesting. But since we have SSRM2-6 first will fire too fast and become popular as nonstop close combat homing fire. But changing lock to specific part of Heavy\Assault mech for cost of additional time to lock - that would be nice. Like after normal lock you hit heavy mech in random places. Holding lock longer allow you to choose specific component and hit it, if enemy mech not shielding it in right time. Or, at least, make spread a bit less.
