Have editable handles(to insert Unit names) and private battle lobbies been implemented?

Yes, private lobbies (premium time on both sides for some features). By handles I assume you mean name changes? Then yes. I think you get one free one and then it's a MC cost. If you mean unit tags, then yes they have been implemented.

Its called alt account. It is easy to spend $20 and get some decent mechs under a different name with a made up unit and start the deception wars. Remember to ask yourself "would Trump do this"
