I personally prefer the KGC over the Stalker, but that's a matter of taste. KGC is mass firepower (dakka dakka), Stalker is laser/missile support (sort of a second-line kinda guy, I feel).

It's never a bad time to buy a locust, but they kinda need an XL engine to work, so outfitting will easily cost twice to three times the cost of the 'mech. Raven-3L can be fun and carries ECM, but the XL it comes with is sloooow, so you have a similar outfit-cost problem there.

Cicada and Crab are similar in my mind, but I personally prefer the Cicada because it's faster, pretty much an oversized light. I recall the crab being just a bit tankier (though not much, still a 50 ton medium). Cicada works best with a new XL for speedy hit and run, so there is a bit more aftermarket cost there. I do feel like the Crab lacks firepower, but that may just be because I never built it right.

Are the sale prices displaying yet? I'm looking at the prices for the Marauder, and by my calculations, if approximately 7 million is the sale price, then they're normally more expensive than an Atlas. Is that right?

@Khalcruth: There is a very large price spread among different variants due to equipment and weapons. The most expensive Atlas costs almost 13,7 million and the cheapest ones are just shy of 10 million. Similar difference also applies to Marauders.

Which brings a question: how frequent are 50% (or better) color sales? 35% that we've been offered now is better than no discount, but the colors are still damn pricey. Can I reasonably expect a 50% sale until the end of spring?

Also, I wish there was a mechbay sale to go along with the mech sale

Supernova is a Battlemech, no omnis.

Also, there's no need to buy 3 variants of all these discount mechs, since we're getting the new skill tree in February, right?

My two cents on the Marauders, for what it's worth:

• 5D - not great. The hardpoint layout suggests building a brawler, but it doesn't have the survivability to brawl well. Might want to try pure energy (LL?) + XL build instead. It can mount big engines.
  
• 3R - still not great but more fun than 5D. Dakka is always fun. You'll have a hard time using all the 3 ballistic hardpoints, though. I went for AC/10 + 2xAC/2. Weird, I know, but I like it.
  
• Bounty Hunter II - it doesn't do anything special, but it's a fun and well-rounded mech. I'm running 6xML (270 m range thanks to quirks) + Gauss. And yes, I know it's not on sale, just saying it's the only MAD that is really worth getting in my personal opinion.

That's the problem, no one knows it. And how many quirks will stay on specific chassis/variants. I'm thinking to get the Crab with jump jets but the other variants have way more structure quirks but after skill tree...?

Year of the Fire Rooster and yet the poor Flamer is still in such a sad state.

Sale isn't bad, though. If I wasn't sticking to my guns on principle I'd probably be inclined to make some purchases. Nice sale on colors and some mechs. I'm surprised that the Hot Rod pattern (even featured on the sale ad image) isn't on sale.

3R is the best of the bunch by far. Triple AC5 with cooldown was brutal, backed with med lasers. I think dual UAC5 + AC2 would be even tastier but that mech is very solid.

Bounty Hunter I kinda gave up on. Wasn't great for anything specific. Still a killer but just not the specific killer I needed.

Mind sharing your loadouts? I tried similar ones, but they didn't compute. Not enough tonnage.
Well, triple AC/5 is possible with medium lasers but it's boring. I prefer pulses.
