Hey guys.

First I want to thank everyone who's been so much help. My play is improving, albeit painfully slowly. :)

I want to get into CW. I've played fewer than 20 matches and realize I have no idea what should go into a good drop deck.

I'd like to build one each for clan and IS. The need to be laser vomit capable for the unit I'm running with.

I can buy a few mechs if need be but my main mechs right now are:

Clan:

Cheetah
Hellbringer
Crow
Highlander IIC
Hunchback IIC
Orion IIC

IS:

Jagermech
Enforcer
Panther
Zeus (which I'm terrible at playing)

Again, buying 2 or 3 mechs is no problem. What I'd like to know is: What mechs would you suggest and how do you decide what order to run them in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mech will depend on map and game mode so that is a complex question. You have to consider what the win objective is, what type of heat will you be dealing with, what engagement range you are likely to be in, and what roles you team will be playing as well (ie- if everyone else is set up for sniping you do not want to be the loan pilot closing in for a brawl.

Order- usually I go slowest first, because if I need to rapidly reinforce my team mid match then having a slower mech can be a big problem. Beyond that, I adjust as the match unfolds.

For the clan the usual suspect :
Ebon Jag
Night Gyr
Timber Wolf
In that order as the Jag at 65ton can give alot of flexibility on your drop deck.

For IS :
Warhammer
Battlemaster
Grasshopper
In that order as well, with the tonnage advantage the IS is enjoying at the moment they can spam loads of warhammers and battlemasters as well as the occasional grasshoppers

Hope this can help you in giving an idea of the current meta mechs that are running in cw ;)

My personal advise? Play the mechs you feel you work best in. Adjust some of the builds maybe to better suit FP over time, but for the most part mech familiarity can mean a large difference between doing well and just not doing well.

In my case, I'm a very strong medium mech pilot. My unit has long since learned not to ask me to pilot basically anything that is either a medium or runs like a medium.

In my case, my Dropdecks are rather bland in mech selection, but work very well for me. My IS drop deck consists of 4 Crabs, and my Clan deck has 4 Huntsmen. All of them are 50 ton mechs, but each build has a specific task for the match to perform. This lets me vary my tactics according to the needs of the match and what my team is looking for.

I do rather well with that, and I don't even utilize all of my drop deck possible tonnage.

So, on that note, I'd probably start with a drop deck that has mechs you enjoy playing and seem to do well in QP. From there, adjust to what seems to be working best for you. In my case, it's an all 50 ton mech deck. For most people, they like their heavies and will pile them on with maybe a light or a medium to make the tonnage work. I even know of some people who had two 100 ton mechs and two locusts...

As an average, I tend to see a deck consist of Hellbringers, Timberwolves, Cheetahs and Stormcrows/Hunchback IICs. The occasional Kodiak may show up from time to time even, but they are kinda rare right now due to the low weight.

On the IS side of things, I tend to see Thunderbolts, Griffins and Locusts, with maybe an Atlas, Marauder or Warhammer here or there.

As for what order to drop in... My unit tends to drop slowest to fastest mechs. This means that the first engagement normally is slow, but reinforcements can come back faster and faster as the match goes on. So, often it is called "heaviest to lightest" because that is where the tonnage sits with the average speed. (However, I tend to have dropdecks where I might take a Summoner or Linebacker last, because it's faster than my Nova or Huntsman.)

Of course, this is just a rough rule of thumb.

Basically, if you don't like the Zeus and feel you don't do well in it... Than why bring a Zeus!? Even if it was the most meta of meta mechs (it isn't right now), if you don't do well in it and just don't enjoy playing the mech... Why take it?

Not sure what else I can say here... I've just always found I get better results when I use mechs I'm just comfortable in.

Dont buy timberwolf it is made of paper cause cause it have large (compared to other mechs) hitboxes and ull be always primary target.
Dont buy Night gyr. It is slow for Atlas-sized mech. If u bad at positioning and sniper shooting then it is not for u.
For 75 ton mech i recomend Orion II. With 2LPL 1UAC10 1UAC5 2SRM6-A can kill any mech, including atlas with ease 1 on 1.

i would recomend

1. Warhawk - Agile mech, Almost same HP (armor+structure), Nice alpha, lot of build-in heatsinks. With 4LPL+1ML+TC u should have no problems to engage the enemy.

2. OrionIIc.

3. Stormcrow - Agile mech, U must think before engage. But if u engage the enemy u can kill it with no problems with 6SPL + 4MPL.

4. Myst linx - small as locust, agile, jump jets. U wont be alpha in most cases, cause enemies see no threat in this mech (usually). Fit it with 4SPL or pick prime variant with a lot of good quirks. 2MG + 2SRM6 will punch the hell of enemy mech's back Posted Image . Or shoot for the legs, IS mechs store ammo there Posted Image .

I'd recommend 3 Hellbringers and a Shadow Cat deck. Its a solid deck that's survived the meta changes for 2 years now going strong. You get ECM on all 4 of your mechs and mid-long range direct fire laser vomit builds on everything. Works great and lets you use your range to out do the IS brawlers. Should be pretty good based on what you said your unit wanted.

IS usually has quite a few short ranged mechs so brawling usually isn't recommended, as you'd be walking into a meat grinder when the rest of your team is making trades at mid range.

Check around in the Faction Play subforum. Most of the FP vets hang around over there.

^^^ Agreed.

Highlander and Orion IIC aren't all that good, really. Can be fun in PUG/QP, and SOME pilots can do great in them. But overall they're just not good.

Storm Crow was THE medium mech for a while, and it can still be stronk. But it'll still eventually get outbrawled by Griffins (3M or 2N), and there are better choices for medium or longer ranges just in your stable.

So yeah, 3x HBR and 1x SHC seems the strong hand here. SHC is best with either 2x LPL or 2x ERPPC, ECM, and as many DHS as you can squeeze in there besides. I'd build one of each, throw together a couple drop decks, and have one in either deck. Then, the HBRs. There are a few really good builds for them, usually mixing ERLLs and ERMLs or LPLs and ERMLs. You'll want the LT omni that allows ECM, and the H omni that has an E hard point. You can dead the right side (so get used to peeking with your left). That H omni is a HUGE blessing. Once lost my LT in a FW drop, and finished at least one kill with an ERLL in the head slot.

The HBRs and SHC deck will be plenty good.

Ideally , you want mechs that run at the same speed as the rest team.

most drop callers will want mechs that run 80Kph or faster

you have 2 drop decks, set up one for brawling the other for range (this is optional, since one can change mechs while waiting, this makes switching between brawl and a Range deck quicker, just remember to press select before drop when switching decks Posted Image )

My thoughts of mech choices (My experience is limited)
Inner Sphere:
Battlemaster
Thunderbolt
Warhammer
[I don't have a Light IS picked, if need a light, I'll leave that for others to suggest]
I don't have much for IS Decks, but you really can't go wrong with BLR-2C/ and 2 WHM in your IS drop deck

Clan:
Kodiak
Hellbringer (for Brawl or Range deck)
Ebon Jaguar ( for Ranged deck)
Hunchback IIC
StormCrow -(streak crow) it's nice to have a streak to deal with lights, this is one of those Optional add in, if a drop caller calls for it.
