All I can say is look at speed and hard points against the style of play you want. If you like to be energy sniper guy you want probably 3 energy hard points. If moving and shooting is your thing a mech with a higher base speed already has a larger engine in it - you might not need to spend cbills to upgrade. Want to double tap a larger autocannon - you need 2 projectile hardpoints that are in different parts of the mech (and enough tonnage to lug them around).

I’m still mostly buying sets of at least three (I have gotten 3 warhawks and 3 cicada's in the current sale) … as who knows when ST 1.0 will go live… and I wish to have speed tweak, double basic unlocked now. But It does factor into my considerations ie I have a splatdog with no longer, any intention to get more and I always wanted a SDR-K but none of the other spiders. Its made its way onto my future buy list.

+1 for buying when mechs are on sale… But sometimes this seems like its a prelude to them being balance adjusted… read the scorched earth nerf bat of random oblivion for the unfortunate and at times unsuspecting mech variant, chassis, weapon type(s) or even an entire the entire class… oh Firestarters :/

+1 Weapon meta's and quirks being seasonal and change, so be careful about buying solely for these… except for cuac2, which are a timeless thing of beauty right? :P

+1 (High) Mount point locations, and grouping of like hard points for boating stuff

AND buy things for fun... like vipers for JJ's ...and hope that that fun part doesn't get nerfed in the next patch - lol... like in my excitement for MG's I got; SHC-P, KTF-C and VPR-C and proceded to have a very fun couple of weeks with them... then they all got nerfed, oh well. (JJ's still fun on vipers).

Edit silly formatting

ive done mastered 3 of everything some time ago, and in fact if i haven't mastered it yet, im either leveling it or its one of the 5 mechs i havent bought yet. i havent been bound by the 3 mech rule with the exception of new mech releases, and in those cases i just buy all of them and sell the ones i dont like post mastery.
