I have limited funds, and would like to hear which mech in the chicken leg sale I would be best to blow my cash on before the sale ends.

I'm a n00b in a mastered Tempest with all modules full at the moment, so that's my particular 'bent'.

You ladies and gentlemen all have an opinion, I'd like to hear yours!

If you're clanner scum the Ebon Jag is hard to pass up.

Really though it comes down to your play style and what takes your fancy. Unless you're chasing the meta you can use whatever you want.

The Timberwolf, without question. It's flexible, forgiving and still one of the best mechs in the game.

Seems do-able... I just completed the 5 mil bonus, so I'm under a million cbills from affording it. Oh... am I going to get in trouble for putting lrms on it? It seems like clans almost always have uber range pokey stuff, and little to no fire supression

Yes - and by "trouble" I mean "getting your head handed to you by the enemy." LRMs are a problematic weapon system, because they scale poorly with skill; still, if you want to put LRMs on your kitty ears, go for it (just don't try to be a boat: take enough real guns to fight.) You should strive to be proficient with every weapon* in the game; just remember that LRMs are less effective as you find more experienced players to fight.

Let me jump into this thread and ask about clans.. I think i'm going to buy one each.. Adder, Kit Fox, Mad dog, and Dire.. I have the others. I am thinking about just taking all prime Chassis, but a couple seam to have nice CT quirks. But i hesitate to choose just on that.. So what do you think, any particular variant, or do i just grab it and hope for the best

It's hard to say; I only bother with the CT quirks because you can swap everything else - even the head. But since you seem to be looking forward to the new skill system (since otherwise you'd be asking which three to take,) we really have no way to know how that will hash out. If money's no object, I'd take the three CT variants whose quirks you most like - in order to skill up the chassis in advance of the new system.

I have about 50 mechs to level... so plenty to work on.. this is just a nice sale, so i figured i would get 4 for my clan account.. Posted Image Give me an idea about how the chassis will play, and the new system is just around the corner.

*edit, But it doesn't seam like much difference in the adders and Kit-fox i might as well just get the primes. The mad dog C has +60 accel which sounds nice but who knows how they will convert to new system,.. the dire W has 2 CT energy points.. perhaps that is how i will go.

i bought timber wolves for my first mechs because someone in a match said the mechs with the yellow lasers are stronger than the ones with the green lasers and they have been very fun-- though i feel like i always have to carry in them

Just going to point out:

Nova is pretty much your best option right now for scouting and 50 ton.

Mad Dog is the only Clan 60 ton mech, and not available any other way (ie: packs) without spending an obscene amount of cash (ie: buying full tiers of two different packs to get one free). 60ton and 40ton mechs (specifically) are going to come up as a common mathematical "need" when building a balanced drop deck.

EBJ and tbr are both great, but play differently. They are also available in other ways. The stormcrow makes a good alternate 60t (at 55t) but is currently not permitted in scouting, thus reducing its value somewhat.

Pretty much just the mediums and heavies (clanside) are the "strongly consider" mechs right now; the other weight classes are much more "flavor to taste"... if you've already picked up the more "important" clan mechs.

Edit: for IS i would say pretty much the same: heavies and mediums (marauder, catapult certainly). Some of the lights are more meaningful on the IS side though: the Locust (esp PB), jenner, and the Cicada (medium version of the locust).

One thing I realised while buying several mechs myself.

For example Jenner IIC. On 65% sale they all cost about 4.5 million. Their selling price for chassis is about 400k, and equipment(weapons, engines, omnipods) sells at 50% of price such as the engine is worth 2.5 million, and guns about 400k.

So even if you just want one, you could still buy 3 to basic them and master that one now, as you lose only about 1 million per each extra variant. So that's only about 20 games for an average player, and it will help the laser vomit builds quite a lot.

Assuming you have the mechbays and C-Bills at hand, and specially if you can sell the variant after just basicing each, that is if you have previously mastered the weight class already.

On the other hand one Warhawk costs 10 million, the chassis sells for 5 million, omnipods(the 7 removable, CT is counted in chassis price)1.4 million and weapons about 950k, so for Warhawk one extra chassis would cost closer to 3 million, which at this stage would really not be worth it.

If you wanted LRMs just get a Mad Dog, they get quirks for it and have a high mounted cockpit that puts the Timber Wolf to shame when LRMing.

If you want general purpose get the Timber Wolf

If you want pure long range poker get Ebon Jaguar.

IIC don't have omnipods =x

And that is going to be most true for the cheaper things, less and less true as price rises (and non-refundables like FF and ES and DHS/Artemis conversion are factored in).

But if you have the cbills, why not? (20 games winning 50k ea = a very average player =x =)

Yes I just mentioned the omnipods all also sell for half of their nominal price, since I've not seen it mentioned anywhere. I just checked for Adder as well, the extra C-bills lost is about 1.1 million per variant.

Originally I got about 50k on average with medium like Nova which I did not play well, but I've improved it to about 100k across different mechs.
