Funny, I was going to say that the potatoes seem unusually talkative today, forcing me to go haywire with the mute function.

Hey, that guy deserved all three SRM36A volleys he walked in front of.

need to train them

tell them to hit the R key until it becomes automatic

don't run into that apex (that means don't run into that burning building)

don't charge solo (I type that even if they are on the other team)

They can't read though. (especially when all chat is off by default)

I've been in faction play and some vindicator was shooting me with PPCs out of his max range on Boreal Vault. I told him he was out of range and not dealing damage and eventually broke something off of him with ERLL after he continued to poke at me and just me for about a minute. I ended up finding and killing him in close range later I believe.

My problem isn't potatoes. It's sour grapes. Already had to deal with a match where we were 3 men down before the fight even started because of a TKing Zeus. At least it gave me an easy "top match score for my team" award.

LOL...

4) though the spot key is not R, for me... too many hours of BF to overcome (especially once BF 1 landed)

add:
7) Terrified of taking damage... must re-position away from blue mechs taking damage (aka engaging the enemy)... and or
i ) Stand directly behind blue mechs, to prevent meat shield from re-positioning
ii ) or engage nascar, to search for that magical pot of gold; where the enemy mechs only present rear armour and don't shoot back at you
iii) split in every direction, surely the red team can't find us if we all split up
iv) Find something to chase, along with half the team or cap something irreverent at that point of the match... surely somebody else will deal with those mean paint scratching red mechs

I had just the opposite the other night. Someone shouting at me over and over telling me I wasn't doing any damage with 2xGauss because the enemy was 900m away. "It's right there on your weapons, you idi0t!" He kept shouting. "You're out of range!"

The only thing worse than potatoes are know-it-all potatoes.

I mean, gauss isn't X3 range anymore, so with it being X2 you're only dealing AC2 tier damage at that range and wasting potential damage with your ammo based build. You are still dealing damage at least though.

Why do you think this aimed at new players?

You're implying that new players are idiots by comparing them to what we call potatoes.

Potatoes are usually players who've been around awhile but absolutely refuse to learn anything at all or listen to anyone. New players often look around and ask for help or try to improve on the other hand unless they decide to be a potato and refuse all help.

Why are you guys surprised that you are playing newb players? and i cant understand PGI letting so many people being insulted by a few, calling people potatoes and putting them down/insulting them on their forums is just well..insulting.
But back to the skills of the player base, no other game/sport will pit people of different skill levels to compete in the same game.
Would it be fair or fun to participate in a game where you match up say an Olympic team vs a school team? most would say no, but PGI and some players seem to think that its fun and engaging game play.
Funny that in WoWs some times a lvl 8 guy will team up say a friend thats lvl 6 and bring him into a lvl 8 game, comments are like "wow poor lvl 6 guy" or "feel sorry for that lvl 6 guy", here its "haha what a potato" or "git good you scrub".
No wonder this games population is what it is.

I don't understand how people who actually witness what is going on and have an understanding of the players they see can still have this idea.

My dude, no one hates new players. T1 of all places is filled with potatoes, I'm in T1 and got here quickly, others got carried up here after 10000 bad matches and still never learned to play.

To go with your analogy, we're mad this guy managed to get on the Olympic team without doing any training or preparation and then once he got on it he still refused to at least play the part.

In MWO we have no idea (unless we know/recognise the pilot name) what tier or how experienced our teammates or enemies are... I wish we did know (so that people could help out the newer players and the unfortunate pilots that drop in higher tier matches than what they are)... TBH I don't consider potato calling as particularly offensive (especially for an online game)...

You two are missing the point...being a potato has nothing to do with being new. Some traits overlap but not all new players are potatoes and vice versa.
