Is there any concrete info on how it's going to work? I see references to PGI letting us respend all XP earned when the new tree arrives.
So should I be spamming the 'Mech that makes me the most XP over and over or should I be rolling all variants and weight classes? Is it going to be universal or by weight class or by chassis?
I read that it is to be more granular, which is usually code for slower to be effective. Should I be afraid that they are going to dumb it down? Does this game get easier every year, or harder?
I bring this up because I during this event I have made a huge amount of useless XP on my favourite chassis.

We'll have to wait and see what PGI will truly bring to the table. That said, I'm absolutely positive that they won't dumb it down.
I mean, look at it, the current system is the same for all mechs, everybody unlocks the same skills when enough XP is earned, no choice, no strategy.
For the upcoming system it looks like you will have to make actual choices, which is reinforced by being constricted to only a limited number of skill upgrades for each mech. So for instance you might need to strike a balance between mobility skills and weapon skills, or maybe you'll prioritize one over the other, but you (probably) can't have both (unless you ignore another skill aspect like heat cooldown?).
I'm expecting a lot of moaning about people who are going to consider the new system "Far too complex!", not the other way around.

From what I've heard, you'll get a refund of all XP spent as a type of Legacy XP you can spend on any mech. I think extra mech XP beyond what you've spent will let you play around with the skill tree a little for that mech.
Each specific mech will have its own tree, but will probably still share a pool of XP for skilling up. This means you can have your HBK-4G skilled out for two types of playing (Fast and maneuverable vs. tanky) for an example.

Just think of it as multi classing.
You were a Mage, now you follow the path of the Cleric, but you still have that experience.

it will be the same skill system as current one, but will take more time to grind those skills.

It seems like it will be some weird mix of the current skill system and making quirks and modules into skills. All we know from the trailer video is that there will be a limited mount of unlocks and that things like "+?% to laser range" will be incremental so a thing like "+10% to laser range" will take multiple unlocks.
They recently stated that it is different in some ways from what is in the trailer video. What that means is anyone's guess. We also don't know what the max limit on any one thing is. Is "+50% to PPC velocity" the limit or is it higher or lower? We don't know.
There even seems to be confusion about how it is all going to roll out. Is it supposed to roll out in February? or just the play test in February? Is there supposed to be just info released in February or more?
because the real info for now is February something about the skill tree happens.
