Just my 2 cents - Would be nice if Gauss Rifle when out of ammo automatically discharges its capacitors/powers down to either eliminate or greatly decrease the chance it will explode if crit.

Ammo bins when empty do nothing but a gauss rifle is a risk always even when not usable anymore, kind of annoying. Not a real huge deal, but always seemed dumb to me to leave a weapon in a dangerous state even when its unusable to me seems like an R&D bug.

Thanks

Mad Ox, I support your idea. This just seems like a logical progression to a battle, and since 'Critical Hit'-Caused Explosion Chances on Gauss Rifles are now so high, it would only be fitting to have a Safe Shutdown installed in the weapon when no Ammunition remains. ^_^

I'd be in favour but only if we got automatic ammo-dumping when the corresponding weapons are destroyed.

Gauss rifle explodes, even without ammo.
AC20 ammo explodes, even without an AC20.

Seems fair.

It would be nice if you could switch modes on the gauss.

Active mode keeps the gauss rifle charged at all times which puts it at risk to explode but removes the charge-up.
Passive mode has the charge-up but only allows gauss explosions during the charging.
Switching should take one full charge cycle during which the rifle is unusable,
in order to avoid abuse by quick-switching.

Once you run out of ammo you could switch them into passive mode.

Some good ideas be nice to dump ammo if all weapons using it are destroyed too as noted by VonBruinwald
