Used Audacity to edit..
I don't know if the values mean anything (if they're by decibels or what), but here goes:

The original: SO MUDDY!

This isn't about it just sounding "nicer", it has a purpose.

The key issue is this: Her voice blends too well with all the other game sounds, which for some reason are all equally muddy. Engine drone/hum, foot steps, impacts, explosions, reloads, missiles etc..
They all sit comfortably in the mid/low range, with some highs so it doesn't put you to sleep.

Sure would be music to the ears if we had sounds that didn't stoop so low, and really just focused on crisp clear frequencies. When the vast majority of sound elements are in the low/mid range, this is the ideal situation for a warning system to focus mainly in the high range.

Ontop of things, added a slight echo, and honestly, she sounds pretty damn close to MW2, but "enchanced", rather than "same". Which is even more awesome.

So there's my shpeel - thoughts?

Personally, I think the audio could use a good amount of work... Like nearly an overhaul, but even just a remix to enhance to optimize the sound scape. PGI aimed for AAA fidelity...Well, the audio is heavily lacking in that initiative.

Honestly, really wish they had official sound packs for B-Betty, your own voice on the comm wheel, and the commanders. Either that, or getting people to start being more creative with mods to replace them.

Anyways, I'll check out the actual video when I'm actually awake. But I can agree that the base noises are a bit... Underwhelming. MW3 sound mod ftw.

I like your edits. Sounds a lot more like the MW2 Betty style.

Yep, reminds me of the HEV sounds from half life.

Anyone from PGI reading this? I'm sure it won't be hard for them to edit sounds.

I actually wondered not ong ago why PGI did not try to monetise this yet. This has a lot of potential for not that much effort. Sound packs mods are ok, but PGI released items could be customised for a single mech and heard by other when they spectate you or hear your commands.

I would actually throw a few bucks on PGI for that. I didn't for quite a long time because there is simply nothing left interesting enough to me to pay money for it. Some cool voice assist would do. Robotic maybe? Or that ridiculous barking clanner voice for clan mechs. "All systems nominal, hurr durr". :]

Would be nice to have some way to adjust that's not technically against the user agreement.

If you listen to actual Betty in aircraft, it's purposely loud, abrupt, and easily distinguished from environmental noise. Cool documentary on the woman behind the voice for F/A-18s. It would be really neat if she contracted out to video game devs to do voiceovers for them for warning systems in her spare time now that she's retired - sounds like she really enjoyed her job. Would love to meet her at some point.

Any plans on releasing the pack of these since you've already done them? It sounds 10x better and reminds me of Mechwarrior 2.

I've only done the ones in the video. and I'm not using them in the game. Not sure how PGI would feel if I reformatted her voice and put it into its own pack. But they said they're cool with MW2 sound packs and other sound packs, as long as it doesn't provide an advantage.

I suppose if there's enough interest, I could have a whack at editing all her voice files and repacking them. I have no idea how to do that though, and I don't really feel like doing it. I'd much rather see PGI do it and offer various standard voice packs (edited files, with various pitches, echo, upper or lower ranges) for 250mc or something. And premium ones that are specifically voiced and edited to fit a certain character theme would be 500-1000mc or something. I'm sure PGI's stance will be all about "well yeah but we give you more voices and that just increases the download and game file size".
I think that excuse this day and age is absolute rubbish. No body cares about storage anymore, we have too much and it's incredibly cheap to add literally TERABYTES to your computers storage. PGI can probably hear that amount of eyes that roll when ever they say silly things like that.

I'll have a look at what's all involved to replacing the voices.
