World of Tanks 1, game with walking tanks 0.

Why?

Why can't this be more than a niche game? Why can't you honor the lore and have a game with wide appeal?

Anyone have any answers?

Mate, superbowl commercials are expensive AF. And the only reason Wargaming has the money for that sort of thing is Russians.

Eh no. They had last minute ad openings and WG pretty much just submitted whatever video ads they had.

Furthermore, many many on the forums thought the ads sucks with many complaining WG should concentrate on the game because balance and map designs are pretty bad.

That is why I have played mostly MWO in the last year compared to the one match I did in WoT and I have been with WoT for close to 7 years now. Bloody idiots there still can't or don't want to implement the M60A1 into the US tree.

And I do agree. PGI needs to market the game more.

there was at some points Ads on websites that showed MWO. but the art style was of BattleTech mechs, and not the actual models of MWO's mechs.

Wargaming mostly spend the budget on marketing than spending to the game.

We need to get more of Alex's cool designs and some ingame combat vids out.

Didn't see much marketing lately. I would say they spend their budget on development but on developing stupid decisions.

You have to remember that Battletech itself has been a sleeping giant. since its inception in the 80's it had enough momentum and sales to grow and stay alive. but not easy or cheap to get into. Honestly I'm glad it's forever stayed a niche thing. Leaves it untainted and we never have to worry about selling out. Closing thing to that happening was the clix game in the 2000's. But it stayed fairly true and nothing ridiculous came out of it.

We have to wait until Marik? and Kurita duke it out. Dude this will probably be like the first irl Mech vs Mech combat. If PGI and Megabots does some kind of promotion together, that'd be a huge publicity. But until then, PGI needs to work on this game

Mechassault for the Xbox. Although that game had elementals which was crazy fun.

The honest answer? Because PGI simply doesnt have the skill to make it a mainstream success. It's really sad because another game studio coudlve made this a smash hit; there really is no competitve game with the depth of MW, and a lot of people would love a game like that. But it's taken years for basic features that shouldve been in long ago, the game is INCREDIBLY convoluted and confusing for new players to learn, the grind is obscene, bad new player experience.

Blah blah you get it. The point is there really is/was a much larger market for this type of competitive FPS, it's just that pgi is not capable of reaching that market/is happy and able to just put in minimal effort because they can milk dry MW fans who were desperate for a MW game for many years.

They have improved it a lot over the past couple years I was away though so perhaps theres still a chance for it to become more popular.

WG weren't even planning on advertising in the Superbowl until a slot opened up at a cheap price.

Even for WG, Superbowl pricing is simply out of their price range unless they get lucky like that.

The grind is obscene? For me after playing WoT, there might as well be no grind. Imagine having to have pay ammo costs, and repair cost after every match. Imagine losing Cbills if you played horribly in an assault as a player without premium.

In MWO, after purchasing the mech and then outfitting it, that's it. All credits earned after that is pure profit.

There is also a very good tutorial but what MWO needs is a tutorial for customising mechs in the mech bay.

When it's a common thing for people to tell you "Oh, no, that vehicle is great, you just need to use premium rounds on it", or "Yeah, that one's fun, but you literally can't make money with it", you know your economy is crap. That, and the power creep got so bad that armor values don't even matter any more. RIP my Valentine 2.

I don't know of any mech sim game that has ever had widespread appeal.

Most were all good as they were opposition to the current administrations efforts.
